Rick Perry, hypocrite on immigration

In 2001, Texas Gov. Rick Perry signed HB 1403, which would allow undocumented immigrants who graduated from a Texas high school (among other conditions) to pay in-state tuition at Texas public colleges.

As Perry prepared for his 2012 presidential campaign, he stood by that law. He also opposed a 2007 effort to repeal that law.

But fast forward to Thursday:

Gov. Rick Perry told members of a congressional committee Thursday that tens of thousands of children crossing the Texas border should be swiftly deported for reasons of national security and to warn would-be migrants not to risk the perilous journey to the southern U.S border.

Perry, speaking before the U.S. House Homeland Security committee, reiterated the Republican Party’s criticism of President Barack Obama, whose policies they say at least welcomed the influx of 52,000 unaccompanied children from Central America.

“Nobody is doing these children the slightest favor by delaying a rapid return to their countries of origin,” Perry said, referring to reports of violence, rape and trafficking endured by women and children traveling from Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.

So in Rick Perry's mind, these children are a national security risk because Obama, but children brought here illegally shouldn't be denied in-state tuition?

Meanwhile, TX Attorney General Greg Abbott is also considering suing the feds for failing to secure the border.
