Conservatives Are Purposely Making Their Cars Spew Black Smoke To Protest Obama And Environmentalist

http://www.businessinsider.com/conservatives-purposely-making-cars-spew-black-smoke-2014-7

Pickup trucks customized to spew black smoke into the air are quickly becoming the newest weapon in the culture wars.
"Coal Rollers" are diesel trucks modified with chimneys and equipment that can force extra fuel into the engine causing dark black smoke to pour out of the chimney stacks. These modifications are not new, but as Slate's Dave Weigel pointed out on Thursday, "rolling coal" has begun to take on a political dimension with pickup drivers increasingly viewing their smokestacks as a form of protest against environmentalists and Obama administration emissions regulations.

Last month, Vocativ noted many coal rollers focus their fumes on "nature nuffies," or people who drive hybrids, and "rice burners," or Japanese-made cars.

"The feeling around here is that everyone who drives a small car is a liberal," a roller named Ryan told Vocativ. "I rolled coal on a Prius once just because they were tailing me."

trend is to pretend that Dodge Rams aren't made in Mexico, and aren't foreign, just because it is American brand while pointing out the the "rice wagon" comes form a foreign company even though Toyota Prius is made in Texas and gives jobs to lots or people like them.

Wonder what they do with a Ford C-Max Plugin Hybrid? American Brand. Made in America, but a hybrid.

Sun Jul 6, 2014, 07:16 AM
Jul 2014

These are diesel-engine trucks. Diesel smoke is mostly soot particulates, enviromentally not as bad as smoke from a gas engine.
Overall, I'd caution people to curb their "outrage". First of all, that is their intent, to piss people off. React accordingly, and it's Mission Accomplished. Just like peep with tatoos and piercings. Ignore it, and the "fad" will quickly go away. I say "fad", because we're probably not talking big numbers here... probably only a few hundred trucks, nationwide... we're not talking many thousands. The companies that produce and install the kits will soon find out they don't sell enough to be profitable. Just a guess, but such a kit and installation might be about $2500 or so? After spewing smoke a few times, it will get old. At least the morons didn't send the $2500 to a conservative political candidate, where the damage is long term. There's also questions about voided warranty, legality (esp. in Cali. ), and resale value.
So all in all, let the morons display their foolishness. Laugh at them. Take pictures, caption them, and post on social media. When the rednecks figure out they're not getting the reaction they're looking for, but are being laughed at, then this will be fairly short-lived.

When you live in a place where people go this extent, to put so much time and energy into pridefully extolling their brazen ignorance ... You are past a breaking point.

We get so many "the republican's are on their death beds!" posts here and how I wish that were true.

But, what the last quarter century has shown is that this country's standard of living (debt driven or not) is so high, people have passed the point of seriously engaging in politics. They either tune out and don't engage or they become easy victims to the republicans NEVER ENDING stream of ways to engender a sense of victimization to people's indulgences, like in this situation.

what right wing propaganda does to them.

The people MAKING the money, the Hannity's of the world know it, IMO, but find a sinister pleasure in it, while making big stacks of money along the way.

But, for decades now they have created this perverse brainwashing where they tell people who THEY ARE THE TRUE AMERICANS while creating an endless array of boogymen to vilify.

They USED to, and it is interesting that they don't even try to sing this song, but they USED to say "We are party of self responsibility."

But, they are so far gone now they don't even try to stake that high ground, they just have become relentlessly obsessed over OTHER PEOPLE'S responsibility, at least what THEY think other people should be responsible for.

Creating this mean spirited, reactionary mentality that has spilled over to our society at large.

So, you end up having these jackasses with big ass trucks who think THEY are the victims feeling justified in hating the "liberal" and even further one step from taking actual action against the liberal.

A place of business near where I live, has sign hanging up, "The only good liberal is a dead liberal."

The good news is that Conservatives always create a lot of collateral damage when they make war, so there will be a backlash. Just like there was a backlash against Iraq. The Iraqis didn't perpetrate 9/11. Just like there backlash against open carry. The traditionally right wing cops really love being identified with the "evil government," and put on their target list! People in at deep red Atlanta burbs love having people show up at little league games with AR 15s. There will be a backlash against this. In their mind all pretty girls are green enviro nuts! That will surely help their cause greatly. Yeah Right!

Its an identification with a "tribe", and thumbing their nose at the rest of society. Takes many forms. I'm no sociologist, but this might go back 70 years...right after WW2. There were the hot-rodders, the bikers, and yes even hippies.... many other cultures, I think its a modern form of tribalism. Maybe a sociologist wants to chip in here?

I imagine the smoke-spewing kits void the engine warranty. Most likely increases engine wear. Probably illegal in some locales (like California). And definately hurts resale value... the market for smoke-billowing trucks is really small, and cutting holes in the bed for the stacks just gives a place for rust to start.
Just a guess, but most of these trucks are likely show vehicles not daily drivers or work trucks. Spend several grand to belch smoke, get a few oohs and aahs from Budweiser-swilling goobers, and after that it gets boring pretty quickly.

People who eat meat are doing so because they hate Obama and environmentalists. Seriously, what's the difference between "rolling coal on a Prius" and responding to a vegetarian that "I'M GONNA HAVE A STEAK RIGHT FUCKING NOW!!" anyway? Just to be an asshole? Check.

Everyone has their selfish moments, and these coal rolling dipshits are no different. Like petulant children, they show off their disdain for something good by being (what they think to be) especially bad. Big deal. Likely still less environmentally irresponsible as some hypermiling Prius asshat anyway.

Full disclosure: I hate the Prius. I also hate black-soot billowing smokestacks on huge trucks driven by douchebags.

My apologies to my meat-eating friends. I'm simply trying to make a point, and I'm using my Holier-Than-Thou Soapbox (patent pending)* to make it.

I live in Texas, truck country, I have seen one of these in the past 10 years. And it had nothing to do with the president, it was a poor family that could not afford to get their truck repaired.

Diesel truck modifiers are the same as those who drop a mini truck all the way to the ground, those who put a $5000 sound system in a $500 car and rattle windows all around and those who spend $10,000 to jack a truck 10 feet off the ground then never leave the pavement. Mostly single males under 25 with little or no common sense.

I saw plenty of minority teens and 20 something's using super loud music to irritate old white folks over the years too.

It's really nothing new, just the way it comes out changes over the generations.

They think this makes their little pick-em-up trucks look like real trucks. An added benefit is the disgusted looks they get from normal people who don't like black diesel smoke so much.

Some morons fly confederate flags on their trucks. Others put stupid-ass bumper stickers on them. These guys set up their trucks to belch black smoke.

Morons, every one of them.

I live in the greater Phoenix area and was driving my Prius home when one of those monstrosities let loose thick plumes of black smoke just ahead of me. Apparently, I had been "coal rolled." The thing is, my windows were up so I didn't get any of it. The idiot driving his truck probably inhaled far more. Just when you think they've scraped the bottom they manage to go deeper.

I don't see how intentionally blinding a driver in the middle of traffic can't be construed as attempted murder any more than if a passenger with a death wish reached over and covered the driver's eyes hoping he/she would get into an accident

It reminds me of people who ostentatiously smoked cigarettes in public to prove their disdain for health nuts. I knew a few - at least one died of lung cancer. He was a nice guy, but got caught up by something stupid. Beyond stupid.

65. Eh. Modified diesels have been doing this for years.
Sun Jul 6, 2014, 01:53 PM
Jul 2014

There is a subgroup of hotrodders who tune big truck turbo diesels for maximum horsepower. A side-effect is gouts of thick black smoke out the exhausts. Those huge trucks can actually be made to be incredibly fast.

Now, this most likely does make them more polluting, for the same reason, which is dumping a lot of fuel into the motor. But it normally goes with a "chip" tune and sometimes other modifications.

But it's been around for years, and is hardly Obama-specific, or (at least originally) a deliberate thumb-in-the-eye to environmentalists.

Still kind of stupid, but it's definitely not new, and in most cases not simply a case of "sending a message" or what have you.

Both feature right-wing rednecks with more money than brains, reverting to childish, expensive taunts against those with whom they disagree. And both movements are making their opponents look very good by comparison. Nice work, fuckwits.

So unless there are state laws in power, and troopers or sheriffs willing to enforce them, there's not much to be done.

Let them drive into some parts of California, however, and they might not get out with their truck intact.
