My wife and I just attended a reading of the Declaration of Independence at Independence Hall.

July 8th is the anniversary of the first public reading.

Republicans were trying to shout the reader down…

...I mean actors dressed up as loyalists to King George were trying to shout the reader down. There were actors dressed as patriots shouting support.

Philadelphia is awesome.

and you were lucky to be there in Philadelphia....

But in honor of the first reading's anniversaries, there's no reason why a public reinactments couldn't take place in any city, large or small, in front of city hall or post office, or school....

The shouters of disapproval and those of support must have been interesting and fun to watch, especially if all were passionate....

Thanks...never knew anybody did this sort of thing....

there is a large gathering for this traditional reading. Freehold is the county seat for Monmouth County (hence my username) and the Battle of Monmouth was fought a few miles from downtown...
