Letterman/Rivers

Letterman didn't disappoint me. Joan was interviewed on CNN by Frederica Winfield (not sure of last name)....and it went kinda rough, especially on Michelle Obama.

He somehow maneuvered Rivers so that that part of the conversation didn't come up, and he tried to keep to the subject, her book.

I knew David wouldn't turn on Michelle because it's always been obvious that he likes her, and he didn't give Rivers a chance to do it either.

Good for you, Dave...

Time for bed.

They were laughing the whole time. If he wanted to diss her, he would have cancelled her appearance on the show. They are comedians. They know about controversy regarding jokes.

4. Did you think I was taking a sarcastic shot at Dave? Dave was funny, she wasn't.

I wasn't being sarcastic, and Rivers wasn't being adeptly funny. I don't think she was expecting him to leave her out to dry like that. If she did expect it because it was a prearranged "bit" (I highly doubt it), she failed even more because she looked exactly like she was waiting for someone to rescue her.

I think it revealed that she's lost her chops:

?t=46s

(she's been telling that last joke for a lonnnng time)

they have to say ever increasingly controversial stuff to get attention. It's kinda sad that you have to earn a living that way, but there it is.

but he didn't do it to show her up. Joan was Joan. That's what she does.

6. OMZ!1 You & I have finally disagreed about something, so we're *not* the same person!1

Well, only half disagree: Agree on Dave, disagree about Joan. I believe that Dave sprung it without her foreknowledge, and that she wasn't adept at breaking out of her prepared routine to improvise, was flat-footed there, but she's 80-something fer gudness' sake!1

Other than that, Dave wears CARSON's mantle and for all those years kept the ban on her until the last year or two. And on her first guesting he treated her to the cold shoulder, not supportively laughing at her lines. This time, it was suspicious that he was being overly friendly, which turned out to be a set-up. In a way he was being overtly (instead of passive boycotting) vengeful for CARSON by punking her.

As for her being "disgraceful," uh, outrageous.

7. I'm talking about this quote of Rivers' that I read on DU the other day..

"Joan Rivers, 81, told a reporter that President Barack Obama is the first gay president and that First Lady Michelle Obama is a “tranny.”

After officiating an impromptu wedding for Joe Aiello and his partner Jed Ryan at a signing for her new book “Diary of a Mad Diva” at an NYC Barnes & Noble on Monday, a reporter asked Rivers about the possibility of the first gay president, to which she replied: “We already have it with Obama, so let’s just calm down.”

“You know Michelle is a tranny,” Rivers added dismissively.

“Tranny” is a common slur used to described individuals on the trans* spectrum."

With all the low ratings the President has, there are still people, I'm one of them, who love and respect him and Michelle and daughters as much as we did at the beginning.

I think Dave is one and he may have set Rivers up just to walk out, not for Whitfield's sake, but to get her back for the remark she made about Michelle.

Rivers was disgusting about her remarks about Meryl Streep, an actress that Dave is fond of, her screaming about her dry vagina, and it's not her age. She's always gone too far. Ignorance is not always funny.

That tranny remark not only offends Michelle's fans, it is more a slur to the lgbt communities, as tho it were something funny, but must be hidden - not any more...these gender jokes were always sick, but now they offend even more.

And when she came in, she tilted her head to get a kiss from David, and it was the fastest insincere gesture he has ever made that I have seen...even when he doesn't want to kiss (his wife's idea no doubt), he's ever the gentleman with a delicate kiss of the lady's hand.

Never did like Rivers, always liked Dave & the Obamas, and boy, am I going to miss him. Talk about cloning, and you gotta put Letterman in that pool.

Now she's just bitter and mean, trying to sell controversy instead of humor. She's like a "shock jock" that can't think of anything funny to say so she just attacks people instead, and usually with the same stale recirculated material.
