Goldwater DID win the Republican nomination with Bill Miller and Johnson DID beat him in a landslide. Very silly poll

Goldwater would have lost to Carter in 1980, anyway.

Reagan had the "spoonful of sugar" personality.

But in this case it was *poison* not "medicine" the doctor was dispensing.

Goldwater was Dr. Kervorkian.

Now, Goldwater vs. McGovern in 1972! That would have been a hell of a match, because one was viewed as too far-right and the other too far-left. Someone's got to win, right? At least the voters would have had a clear choice.

in 1964 and did face LBJ in the general election. I hope I'm not spoiling anything by telling you that Goldwater did indeed loose the election. Perhaps your 'way back' machine needs new batteries.

Nixon started the "Silent Majority" blather. He was a rightist with a left-controlled Congress, so he was forced into acts (EPA, e.g.) that he probably would have preferred to avoid. However, I will agree that Reagan was even farther to the right. Say Reagan was 10% and Nixon more like 30%. Of course, the idiots now are into negative numbers...
