SCOTUS said 14th amendment does not apply to women

With HL decision.

Since discrimination against women is now legal, what is there, legally, from announcing right before 2016 that women can not vote legally?

Or that women can not run for public office, legally? Like, Hillary, for example.

What mechanism is still in place, to prevent them from pulling that trump card in 2016?

Am I being needlessly paranoid?

I hope someone with a background in law can tell us if there is anything to prevent this from happening.

the decision was reprehensible, and flawed on multiple counts, starting with the ludicrous notion that corporations have religion.

Although Scalia has made comments indicating he thinks 14th should not protect women, the Court mostly hung its hat on the "Religious Freedom Restoration Act," which puts an increased burden on government not to impede religious thought, over and above what previous Supreme Court Rulings found based on First Amendment protections.

We ought to repeal that law, first off.

But the big problem is really that this Court has made it clear that the five conservatives have a strong "Money over People" agenda. As long as they are sitting there, we are all in danger of any number of reactionary rulings on civil rights, property rights, anti-corruption measures, etc.

This Court is out to make the "Golden Rule" (the one about the ones with the gold making the rules) the law of the land.

The repug war against women is real. They wish list contains a denial of the right of our control of our own bodies, it is not a stretch to wonder how far they would take this list if they could.

I am going to renew my overdue membership to ACLU, CREW, and a couple of others. These organizations seem to be good in representing our rights in the courts. It is unreal that women are still fighting these battles, but fight we must because the price is too big for us to lose.

Roberts, Scalia and Alito are extremely arrogant but incredibly stupid, little men, which makes them very dangerous. Their arrogance reminds me of the speeches of Mussolini. Thomas and Kennedy are not as stupid, but they are unwilling to stand up to the powerful interests who put them where they are. Thomas has a severe inferiority complex that he tries to hide by voting with the monied interests that picked him from obscurity. It is too bad he never got treatment for his problems. He is a tragic individual, which also makes him very dangerous. Kennedy lost his backbone when O'Connor retired and now he votes for the right wing lunacy more and more. He seems tired and addled. Not that O'Connor was all that great, but she could have a little common sense once in awhile.

Roberts, Scalia and Alito philosophy is hard core fascism. Fascism is a failed concept, but still alluring to ruthless little men who know they cannot gain and keep power without brutalizing other people. They will stop at nothing to take away our democracy. Scalia and Alito are scary, but Roberts is every citizens' worst nightmare. He is a sociopath without a shred of empathy.
