If John Edwards had won the Democratic nomination in 2008, would he have beaten John McCain?

He was the favorite here at DU up until he dropped out.

The GOP would have possibly dropped 'the' story on him before November, if they actually knew.

I supported JE way back when because he was the only one who talked about the poor. I came to find out that he was a sham and a liar. I felt betrayed and vowed never again to let myself be fooled by a slick politician. As far as I am concerned, JE and only JE brought it on himself...

It wasn't about the GOP knowing - it was about there being enough evidence to hang him with the story. It would've killed him and the Democrats would've lost in a landslide.
