this decision by the Supreme Court in particular? When somebody who has the power to sign bills into legislation support a decision like this, what does that mean for the US?

Sigh.

The Obama administration attorney participated in oral arguments. The amicus brief was posted in the original thread linked here. There is no denying which side the administration took.

This thread is becoming an excellent example of the behavior that is allowing this bipartisan assault on our rights to be so successful. As long as there is such reflexive investment in ignoring, minimizing, justifying, or outright denying indefensible positions when someone points out that they are also coming from our party, we will never have a unified opposition to this creeping oppression.

The Obama administration sent attorneys for the DOJ for oral arguments urging this outcome. On this and so many other issues, the assault on our rights is clearly bipartisan.

You cannot fix a problem if you refuse to acknowledge it.

and the oral arguments have been public all week. I believe there are also references to MSM news coverage in the other thread.

You are spending a great deal of time trying to deny what happened this week, even though the record is accessible to the entire nation. How embarrassing for you, but how illustrative of the level of denial we are dealing with.

How illustrative of the level of delusion WE are dealing with. Sorry but I work 55hrs a week and have a wife and 2 kids, didn't know this was about making people 'embarrassed'. Btw, what the Administration wanted was a blanket policy, which wasn't reached by the courts who decided they couldn't find a reasonable line, which isn't exactly a 'blanket policy', therefore they left it up to the jail administrators.

And now you realize that you cannot deny that the administration argued in favor of this, so you attempt to rationalize their argument. That's the typical route: first deny the authoritarian policy, and then when it cannot be denied anymore, justify it.

I will leave you now and let your post speak for itself...that old, familiar song.

1. Deny the authoritarian/right-wing/corporate policy.

2. Justify the authoritarian/right-wing/corporate policy.

3. Nasty personal attack.

Thank you. I would have hated for that summary to have been incomplete.

Given that the administration's support for this is readily apparent both in the media and in the links right in the post I linked, that one was obviously rhetorical rather than genuine...along the lines of, "No, the earth doesn't revolve around the sun. Prove it!"

appointing judges. All the Obama and Clinton appointees voted against this travesty. It's quite correct to criticize the President and the DOJ for this, but I'm just trying to balance the picture out a little bit.

that Romney would pick a BETTER SC justice than Obama. The point is that we have a serious problem in our party, and just voting Democratic is not enough anymore. We have to acknowledge that we are getting this authoritarian crap from both sides, and we have to stand up as a nation and start pressuring for that to change rather than denying, rationalizing, justifying, and ignoring indefensible behavior when it comes from our own party.

It's worth being very clear about what our government is doing.

How many people were trapped on that bridge and arrested during the Occupy protests?

We are getting very close to Egyptian virginity checks when it comes to giving the population reasons to fear making their voices heard.
