Steve Green, one of the owners of Hobby Lobby, has become something of a Christian Warrior. After the landmark Supreme Court ruling, Green hopes to make an even larger impact on our national fabric, setting his sights on the children. According to RawStory.com, Green has developed a four-year Bible curriculum which is being beta-tested in Oklahomas Mustang Public School district beginning in the Fall of 2014.
Yes, you read that right. The man who doesnt want the public e.g. his whorish employees to infringe on his religious beliefs, is planning to inflict those beliefs on children in taxpayer-funded public schools. Right now, the course is listed as an elective, but according to a speech posted on the liberal blog Daily Kos, Green said, Someday, I would argue, it should be mandated.
Learning about the Bible perhaps the most influential book in human history is not necessarily a bad thing. However, treating the book as a science or even historical text is far different from learning about a series of very important cultural myths.
Because, whether you are a believer or not, there is no question that the stories in the Bible are mythological in nature. Mass genocides, wars, god-like beings descending from on-high, are themes common in the mythology of almost every culture. In fact, whats most interesting about them is how cultures separated by time and distance meaning no possibility of communication developed similar mythic stories, which suggests that these stories could be intrinsic to understanding mankind.

(23,820 posts)...the strength of their faith/beliefs, yet cannot tolerate being exposed to even the slightest whiff of anything that varies from their narrow views, are actually showing a weakness in those beliefs.
A faith that is as strong as theirs is alleged to be should serve as a shield, as armor, as a bulwark against the dreaded contamination of the evil outside world - water off the proverbial duck's back, as the old saying goes.
Mr. Green - MYOFB!

(946 posts)If they're exposed to even the slightst whiff of anything that varies, they scream oppression and demand the government do something about it. It irritates me when "christians" try to use their positions of power to force the religion down others throats. You cannot force someone into the kingdom of heaven, nor can you scare them in. Someone must want it.

(23,820 posts)Mostly my nature, but I will also admit that I am treading very carefully just now as I recently had a post blocked, 5-2, for the first time. Much to my surprise, someone alerted when I used a common canine term to refer to a certain tall blonde right wing commentator who penned a scurrilous screed against The Beautiful Game.
I quite agree with your vocabuary choice.
