Experts Say Rare Summer Cold Front on the Way

Remember last winter's cold spot, which turned "polar vortex" into a phrase that sent chills through the spines of Americans east of the Mississippi River?

Get ready for a flashback. This time it's a cool wave sweeping away summer's heat. Morning temperatures could dip into the 50s for many Midwesterners next week, potentially setting seasonal records, according to The Weather Channel.

The Washington Post's Jason Samenow says the weather pattern bears a "haunting resemblance" to January's big freeze. The jet stream is dipping down farther south than usual over the eastern United States, just as it did back then. The cause? It's Typhoon Neoguri, thousands of miles to the west, according to the Weather Underground's Jeff Masters. That storm is sparking a chain reaction of weather shifts, including the Eastern cooldown as well as a strong ridge of high pressure over western North America.
That means next week is going to be a hot one in the West.

It will be nice for getting yard work done. It has been too hot to be outside past 9 a.m. recently.

It will all be shoved westward. Southern California will get it if we're lucky; the Pacific offshore will get it if we're not.

Other than that, it should cool the Rio Grande Valley nicely before it fizzles out.

I hope the heat wave lets up soon. I'm going to be there in a couple week. Here in Korea we have to deal with high humidity all the time. I hate it.

The forecasters are hyping this -- but at most, the east is going to get a couple of days with highs of 80 instead of 85. The midwest will be a little nippier, but not by that much or for that long.

and the vortrex is not predicted to get this far South.
In fact, we are supposed to get 100 degree days soon......
Made almost slightly bearable because at those temps, even the humidity gets cooked out of the air.

Not to make light of your temps, tho. Well I remember the few 80-85 degrees in Seattle. My Grandma would hose down the side of her house, claiming it helped.
Of course we had not even a box fan, not to mention A/C.

You need to come up here for a visit!

But this week we're hitting 90s on some of the days.
Most of us still don't have air conditioning, but I place trays of ice in front of the fans to at least cool the air slightly.

As always, wish you well down there and thanks for always keeping us in mind up here.

Now it is going to be doable again and I can turn off cooler.

I watered twice in May. Didn't water in June. And once so far in jy. Rain again in a couple days, that will take me to endish of July

Big yard. Hate the waste and the bill so this is exciting for me.

I hate the heat so this is excellent, too. It has been a very easy summer so far and Half way thru.

I see from weather reports it will get pretty cool over the next few weeks but not enough to be a problem.
I can't live without my real and fresh tomatoes, they are the food of life.
