Fired Berthoud police officer Jeremy Yachik gets 3 years probation, 30 days in jail for abusing girl

Last edited Mon Jul 14, 2014, 03:09 PM - Edit history (1)

LOVELAND, Colo. - Fired Berthoud police officer Jeremy Yachik was sentenced Monday to three years of supervised probation and 30 days in a jail work-release program for physically abusing a 15-year-old girl.

A Larimer County judge also ordered Yachik to perform 80 hours of community service and to undergo a domestic violence evaluation to determine if he will be required to participate in a domestic violence-treatment program.

According to court records, the girl told Loveland police investigators that Yachik abused her almost daily for years. The abuse allegedly included restraining her hands with handcuffs or plastic zip ties and then slamming her head into a wall hard enough to leave a hole and choking her until she blacked out, according to a Loveland Police Department arrest affidavit.

The girl also said he beat her with ropes, restricted her food, shackled her in a darkened room for hours and force-fed her "ghost pepper sauce" that's roughly 10 times hotter than habanero peppers, the affidavit said.

Assuming the book was the collected wisdom of Sarah Palin.

Cops get away with rape and murder so I guess a little child beating is just a wink and a nod kind of crime.

it was his daughter and his then-fiance got video of it and gave it to his chief, but nothing happened until she escalated it.

What a POS.

Sounds like the only good news out of this story is that the Berthoud police chief resigned and the department was shut down and police services contracted through the Sheriff's department.

My city contracts with our county sheriff and the deal is that we get to pick the best for local officers, so we usually get people that have been in the department for a long time. The problem deputies are the ones that come straight out of the mandatory time they have to spend serving at the county jail when they join. Makes them pretty cynical until they have a few years working with the general public. The good ones adapt, the bad ones - well you know the story.

I'd love to see that chief charged, but my guess is he made a deal that included his resignation. That whole sad story really stinks.

Yachik was arrested on Oct. 23 on a warrant charging him with four counts of child abuse resulting in injury and one count of false imprisonment, all misdemeanor charges, according to police records. He pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor child abuse (pursuant to Alford.) That means he says he's not guilty, but understands there is a good chance of conviction if the case were to go to trial.

Why are these misdemeanors?

it's assault, pure and simple. he should be in prison. effer might serve half his sentence because the county jail is packed.

The fact that she wakes up screaming indicates that there may be much more in her past that she is not ready to deal with yet.
