Satan Is Behind Opposition To Ex-Gay Therapy

On her radio show last week, Religious Right broadcaster Janet Parshall praised ex-gay movement leaders like Anne Paulk, her guest on the program, for helping gays and lesbians “leave the homosexual lifestyle.”

Parshall said that Satan is responsible for increasing resistance to ex-gay therapy: “Anytime Satan can try to trample underfoot the truth that is the cross, he’ll do it, including telling people that they can’t change. You, however, are my expert witness because you changed, as did I, so that really should be the end of the discussion.”

Shades of Marcus'pray-the-Gay-Away Bachmann and that entire shitshow of stupidity...

1. I could be wrong, but I believe that these people who claim to be "ex-gay"

are probably bisexual, but have decided, for whatever reason, to no longer participate in same sex relationships.

This is just my opinion and not meant to pass judgment.

I hesitate to say all because I do believe that sexuality may be fluid for some over the course of their lives.

Those that are bisexual and fail to disclose this fact are causing untold harm to those living in conservative families and communities that are a Kinsey 5 or 6.

is not a black/white thing, even (maybe especially) in individuals. Conservatives want simple black/white, yes/no, male/female answers, but reality seldom seems to do that. Just in the physical realm, we all have individual mixes of hormones, both "male" and "female" and IMHO whichever predominates in the individual is what determines their physical sexuality. This is why we have "feminine" traits in most men and "masculine" traits in most women and some people are sort of androgynous. Meanwhile, we all grow up in a society with varying levels of acceptance and tolerance for individuality, often based on bronze age teachings based on tribal needs and mores not really compatible with modern industrial and post-industrial realities.

Obviously, there are far more factors in the determination of where someone falls on the sexuality scale, but to me, the scale is analog, not digital, in nature. Psychgologically, there are inherent factors as well as learned factors, the old nature/nurture argument and enormous pressures from culture and community on individuals to conform to certain local norms.

So, I guess I'm saying that yes, I agree somewhat. But what I'm really saying, I guess, is that we're all a bit more "bi-sexual" than most of us want to admit.

very dangerous and disavowed by every CREDIBLE medical and psychiatric organization not only in this country but abroad.

Sexuality is genetically determined. You are either attracted to the opposite gender, same gender or perhaps both. But this isn't learned or "chosen". And it is not a lifestyle. A lifestyle is, by its own terms, a "style" of living like country living, urban living, farm living, etc. It is the way you live your life and not who you are. Sexuality is part of who you are not how you live your life. Who you are definitely affects the way you live your life. For many LGBT persons this means they do tend to live either closeted especially in rural areas or somewhat ghettoed in urban areas not unlike the way that Jews, Muslims or persons of certain ethnicities have lived in communities.

We do know this therapy causes the "patient" to become even more self-hating of themselves for their affliction. Some of the treatments involve attaching electrodes to genitals and if one is aroused physically by viewing erotic material that involves the same gender it releases painful electrical pulses. This is akin to the lobotomy culture of the 1940s and 1950s.

As a gay man I do believe that those who claim to have been "cured" either never had intrinsic same-gender attractions, are fooling themselves and will eventually "fall off the wagon" or are so self-loathing they will pretend to have "changed" but will be internally conflicted and miserable for the rest of their lives. If any element of religion is part of the picture the likelihood for self-loathing is increased dramatically.
