How quickly issues move off page one

I went to post the response I received from my local food co-op to my suggestion that they stop carrying Eden Foods products. I figured there'd still be a link on the DU home page on this issue. Not there. I guess we've moved on. Though I'm glad Sandra Bullock is safe, and it's always entertaining to read reports of remarkably stupid republicans (YMCA campers mistaken for illegal immigrants).

In any case, here's the response from my local food co-op. Seems like a bit of a cop-out, but his final comment is worth noting. If enough people vote with their wallets, stores will (theoretically) make rational business decisions and stop carrying the product. That said, this response, along with the Eden Food fuck-you press release, suggests that this battle is far from over, even if it's been driven from the DU home page.

The Eden issue is tricky for us. Eden has been an industry leader in organics and maintaining standards in the face of corporate attacks. They have fought openly within the industry & to outside interests to maintain organic standards, as numerous attempts to water them down have been attempted. They also almost single handedly brought BPA-free lining into cans to the US market and raised the bar, so that BPA free cans are becoming or have become the industry standard for natural/organics and has also translated that into conventional canning as well. So, a number of their values are in line with ours and their products meet our stringent product policy regarding what ingredients and processes are allowed in the products we carry.

It is our policy to encourage our customers to vote, essentially, with their checkbook and support those companies they like and believe in. On a buyer's level if products don't sell we stop carrying them, plain and simple.

Truly we would hate to lose you as a customer, but we are equally reluctant to remove from the shelf a company's product line who has done so much good in our industry. We try always to be responsive to our owners.. So, while we fully see your point of view - with many of our staff probably agreeing with you - we cannot pull Eden's products. Thank you so much for taking the time to write us about this.

that I think have a realistic possibility of working.

I don't buy Eden products, but, if I did, I'd stop.

hardly ever work.

Also just maybe a group puts trivia posts just to force topics off the page on purpose.
