Russia Today London correspondent resigns in protest at 'disrespect for facts' over Malaysian plane

A Russia Today reporter based in London has resigned with immediate effect in protest at the station’s coverage of yesterday’s plane crash in Ukraine.

Sara Firth had worked at Russia Today for five years, joining the Russian government-funded station in Moscow straight after doing an MA in journalism at City University in London. She has since been posted in London.

Firth described the Malaysia Airlines flight crash coverage as “the straw that broke the camel’s back for me” and handed in her resignation this morning.

Russia Today has been criticised for suggesting the crash is the fault of Ukraine. Most other media outlets have suggested that a more likely explanation is that pro-Russian separatists were responsible for shooting down the passenger jet. So far it is estimated that around 300 people died in the crash.

I'd finally be able to listen to Thom Hartmann again if he'd do the same as this journalist.

I loved this part:
<snip>
Firth said that rule one of the Russia Today style guide is to blame Ukraine, or anything else, rather than Russia. “It’s scary that it’s genuine RT guidance on how to do a story, and you have to believe it to succeed there. You stop believing that what they say is the way it is and you stop being useful to them...

“It’s not a nice organisation either.”

the blame game . . . 3, 2, 1

Kinda sounds that the GOP party doesn't it. No wonder the GOP party loves St. V and Russia.

RT is just the propaganda arm of the Russian government, and should not be considered a reliable source for anything having to do with actions of the Russian government or situations that affect the Russian government.

For anything having to do with Ukraine, RT should never be used as a source on DU. Their reporting is unreliable and biased, since they're directly involved in that conflict.

And by that same judgment we should not use them as a source for truth ether.

But I won't cry for this reporter...I am sure she will have a good job in the MSM, one that pays more than this one...but we will likely not know that.
I would like to know what the last one that quit over the same thing is doing now...anyone know?

Ok I did a quick serch and found this...

Liz Wahl, Former RT News Anchor, Quits and Prospers
April 24, 2014

In the ensuing media blitz, Wahl gave interviews to CNN’s Anderson Cooper, Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert, and ABC’s Barbara Walters, among others. Stories about her resignation appeared in news outlets around the world. The New York Daily News credited her with breaking through “the Iron Curtain.” She wrote a feature for Politico entitled “I Was Putin’s Pawn.” Wahl says she has no regrets. “I am happy I did it on the air,” she says. “There’s not anything I would change.”...

To date, Wahl has not yet landed a job. But she says the interest has been strong from potential employers, who have expressed little skittishness about her capacity for future workplace loyalty. Wahl believes the worse Russia behaves in Ukraine, the better her drastic actions appear in job interviews. She is fielding a number of public-speaking opportunities. “I have faith that it’s all going to work out,” she says.

very well be the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back and send someone over the edge into breaking with it.
