A lot of misinformation is being spread, and we need to make sure of the facts. (President says.)

It sounds like the US strongly believes it was separatists or Russia who fired the missile.

Further, it sounds like his patience with Russia is at an end. Enough is enough.

He's careful not to say who shot the plane down, exactly, but it is clear that he blames Putin for enabling it, at least, and is not happy about that at all.

If anything good is to be found in this appalling act, hopefully the international community will be galvanized to stop this conflict.

Says he has spoken to Putin and made that clear to him.

So far haven't seen action toward peace from Putin.

Sanctions will continue and US will work toward a peaceful settlement. Sanctions may increase if cooperation is not achieved.

Says separatists are armed and trained and have Russian support. Not possible for them to have and use sophisticated arms without Russian help. Still don't know exactly what happened, but we are beginning to draw conclusions.

Me: I think it was clear, between the lines, that the President is quite certain it was the separatists, using Russian technology, that did this. We'll hear more down the road, I'm certain.

So far only one US citizen on board; doesn't affect size of outrage.

Sanctions tailored to affect Russia while not unduly harming US and European economies. World economy is connected, but effect on global economy should be minimal.
