Oops-Maryland man killed while testing bulletproof vest

http://news.yahoo.com/maryland-man-killed-while-testing-bulletproof-vest-190509854.html
<snip>
A Maryland man faced murder charges on Friday after accidentally shooting his friend while testing out a bulletproof vest, a shooting reportedly recorded on a video camera.

Baltimore police arrested Mark Ramiro, 30, after he fatally shot Darnell Mitchell, 28, late on Wednesday.

The Baltimore Sun reported on Friday the shooting was recorded on a video camera by a third person.

In that video, Mitchell brags that he is about to take a “deuce deuce in the chest” - a shot from a .22-caliber bullet - before Ramiro, who is seen standing in front of Mitchell, fired the handgun once. He struck Mitchell just above the vest, the newspaper said.

Police would not comment on specific evidence.

Except the vest was supposed to have saved him. Of course if the shooter misses the vest, then the vest can't work.

"bullet resistant" is a more accurate term.

Edit: and no vest is going to stop any bullet that hits the body outside the area the vest covers.

Any fight, even the most ordinary, can get out of hand. But your answer was plain enough; you consider possession of a gun greatly adds to your chances of prevailing in a fight, since you would, in situations you deem most important, prefer to have a gun in your hand. So your opening gambit, the 'People kill people. They don't need a gun to do it' line, is tactics, not true position. It is not something you really mean seriously, rather it is something you say in the belief it might gain you some advantage, and lays groundwork for a claim that even restricting gun purchases or ownership would not really have any impact, because 'people don't need a gun to kill'. But you are quite aware possessing a gun makes it a good deal easier to kill.

You make a lot of assumptions for a stranger....

Your opening bid was this: "People kill people. They don't need a gun to do it."

You have acknowledged that people do kill a good deal more easily, a good deal more readily, a good deal more reliably, with a gun than without a gun.

Which makes your opening "People kill people. They don't need a gun to do it" seem a rather silly thing for you to say, since it is not really your true position.

I missed your exchange with I assume was a MIRT removal. Using logic with a gunner works as well as with a fundamentalist: not at all. They will not admit that guns kill people, that they are even dangerous. They will dance and dance around that sentence because they know that from that, all else follows. It makes a logical person's brain hurt.

... this was just a .22. Had it actually hit the vest, odds are 99.999% the vest would have stopped it.

The thing that people often don't get is that handguns are not very accurate with respect to aim. Having a very short barrel means that even at what would seem to be close range, it is very easy to miss. This guy just missed the vest by a tiny amount. That was all it took.

The folks playing this dumbass game just didn't think it through.

He was surprised that it hurt to get shot.

But, as a defense. The surviving idiot may want to have his lawyer pull all of the vest videos from Youtube and show what they were trying to do.

Italian vest test.

So the action is not unusual, and the result isn't either.

I doubt that you can get a murder charge to fly past the jury. Not when there are so many examples of people doing just this on the net.
