Something interesting happening in Massachusetts - Demoulas Supermarket

Dueling cousins vie for power over a supermarket empire. One cousin who is chairman of the board, ousts the other cousin, who was CEO.
Employees rally in favor of ousted CEO. Stores are not stocked, customers are staying away and now lawmakers are talking boycott.

In this day in age, incredible to see workers rise up again the board and demand action.

...employees with up to 20 years of seniority are risking it all over the board shake-up and I will be boycotting. It's the least I can do. I've never seen an employee reaction like this.

6. Mine too, and I will be sad to have to go to the second cheapest local store, which is Hannaford.

This is where we poor people shop. I'm reading that many store shelves are not being stocked because the warehouse workers and truckers are involved.
This will hurt my budget but I support the employees and what they're doing -which, I believe, is trying to save their company and jobs.

That the "new" board didn't think they were making ENOUGH profit.

One cousin has caused the firing of another cousin. The rumor is that the new cousin isn't happy with record profits and wants to siphon any value of the real estate and stores for a quick profit. There are several new store openings on hold now, causing speculation as to the intentions of the new management.

"LOWELL - One year after Demoulas Super Markets Inc. CEO Arthur T. Demoulas lost majority support on the board of directors to his estranged cousin, Arthur S. Demoulas, the board on Monday morning fired the chief executive.

Arthur T. Demoulas, who took control of the company in 2008, had increased the number of its Market Basket grocery stores by 15, to 71, while annual sales topped $4 billion and the number of employees grew to more than 20,000.

The board, The Sun has learned, also fired Bill Marsden, Market Basket's operations director, and Joseph Rockwell, vice president of grocery sales and merchandising.

A receptionist at the company's headquarters on East Street in Tewksbury told a Sun reporter there would be no public comment before asking the reporter to leave. "
