This is a group of people looking for survivors of Israel shelling. A sniper shoots and wounds the guy in the green shirt, then shoots him twice more as he lays on the ground, killing him.

Joseph Goebbels, November 16, 1941, essay in Das Reich, addressing Germany sympathy for German Jews forced to wear yellow stars:
The Jews gradually are having to depend more and more on themselves, and have recently found a new trick. They knew the good-natured German Michael in us, always ready to shed sentimental tears for the injustice done to them. One suddenly has the impression that the Berlin Jewish population consists only of little babies whose childish helplessness might move us, or else fragile old ladies. The Jews send out the pitiable. They may confuse some harmless souls for a while, but not us. We know exactly what the situation is.

He can't control the internet, he knows our media is working hard to cover his crimes, but it's no good, the world sees the children he has killed. He can't hide it anymore.

Israel is signatory to first and fourth conventions, if I'm not mistaken. Although I believe they argue that the rules don't apply to occupied territories. Ugh.

Civilian appears to be targeted by Israeli sniper during humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza as rescuers approach him.
Last updated: 21 Jul 2014 19:10
A video has been released on YouTube that claims to show an Israeli sniper shooting a wounded Palestinian civilian in Gaza, reportedly during a humanitarian ceasefire.
The International Solidarity Movement of Palestine organisation published the video on Monday.
Al Jazeera is unable to verify its authenticity.
The video shows a group of international and Palestinian volunteers accompanying Gaza municipal workers as they searched for survivors during a short-lived humanitarian ceasefire on Sunday.
Al Jazeera warns it contains graphic images.
Workers wearing what appear to be municipal uniforms can be seen in the background.
The group is shown moving towards a young Palestinian man in a green T-shirt, who is lying in rubble and appears to have been injured in the hand.
When the man moves to get up, he is shot by a sniper as the group approaches.
The man was reportedly searching for family members in rubble after an Israeli shelling.
Aid workers were unable to retrieve his body.

(38,958 posts)While I am (as you know) no fan of Israel and not particularly pleased as to their current actions in Gaza, this video has the look of the "Blair Witch Project" to me. Perhaps the account is accurate, but I for one cannot accept it. As we all know truth is the first casualty of war, photos and videos can and are edited, staged and manipulated in many ways.
Hissyspit
(45,788 posts)but the flip side of that coin is propaganda whose purpose is to cast doubt on any actualities that come out of a war zone, too.

(45,788 posts)Now, at 2:23, you hear a shot but green t-shirt guy is stood directly in front of the camera, the camera man covers the camera with his hand, seemingly shakes it around and only 1 second later at 2:24, green t-shirt guy magically appears a good 5 feet away, laying down past several obstacles which would take a lot longer than 1 second to get to - the amount of edits in the video made me suspicious about this.
This is actually pretty stupid. The shots heard at 2:23 are not the shots that hit the man in the greenshirt. In fact, when the camera cuts, and when it returns, the trio have travelled quite a long distance as they flee, back towards the way they came.
Here's an image at 2:19 just seconds before the shots. Here's another at 1:29 that shows the same perspective with a better view. This is where they are when the shots at 2:22ish are heard.
And here is where greenshirt is lying when the camera resumes. Notice the rubble and background; they are ~50 feet (it's hard to tell) from where they were. Here's an image I did in MSPaint in 30 seconds to showcase this fact.
It's pretty clear what happens; when they are shot at, at 2:23, they all scramble to take cover and the recording cuts off, either accidentally or purposely ended. The trio (greenshirt, the cameraman and the female worker) then run back where they came from, but greenshirt is hit and falls; the cameraman only begins recording because they were forced to stop.
As for the "amount of blood", blood takes time to accumulate. He clearly has blood all over his left hand (though some people call it 'red paint'). But more importantly the examples you've linked to clearly show the entry wound being the source of the blood. Judging by the direction of the ricochet at 2:55 the sniper appears to be directly behind greenshirt, or directly left of the camera. When he is shot (fatally) at 2:37, he is sitting with his back towards the source of the shot, so naturally the entry wound would be on his back and out of view, since he doesn't turn over.
And lastly as for the sound, the pop (or "click" as you call it) is not just the distant sound of the rifle firing but also the actual bullet itself as it passes by at faster than sound. I don't know why you linked a bunch of videos showcasing the sound of a rifle firing from right next to the gun itself; it sounds much different to those being shot at. It also depends on the quality of the microphone. Here is a pretty good video showing what it sounds like to be shot at from a distance. You don't really hear the report of the gun shooting at you, but the snap of the bullet't sonic boom as it passes through the air nearby.
I'm not sure that I've ever seen a dying person on video that I could confirm was dead or not by looking at the video (unless half their body is missing). That's kind of a non-point. The issue is whether this is faked or not, not whether he is dead or not.
I need to go to bed and can't stay up all night debating this. It is true that there is no way to confirm this, at this point. I did actually post the article in this thread pointing out that this incident had not been confirmed and that there is not way to confirm who may have been shooting, if, indeed, there was an actual event.
But if these people are acting, they're damn good.
There's nothing wrong with asking people to be skeptical. Unfortunately, even if this video were to turn out to be fake, there's plenty of what has been going on in Gaza that has been accurately documented that is deplorable.
Behind the Aegis
(53,833 posts)The explanation is silly too.
"As for the "amount of blood", blood takes time to accumulate." WTF?! No, it doesn't. Blood also has this nasty habit of getting all over things, yet when he places his hand on his shirt, removes it, places it back, moves it again, there is no sign of blood. Watch the video in FULL screen.
" Unfortunately, even if this video were to turn out to be fake, there's plenty of what has been going on in Gaza that has been accurately documented that is indefensible."

After two days of searching for a son they lost contact with during a rushed evacuation from their home in Gaza City, one Palestinian family was surprised to hear the young mans voice, calling out for a missing cousin, in video posted on YouTube on Monday by human rights activists.
A sister and a cousin of the missing 23-year-old, Salem Khaleel Shamaly, were horrified to see video of him lying on the ground in the ruined neighborhood they had fled, Shejaiya, wounded by an unseen sniper, according to activists from the Palestinian-led International Solidarity Movement who witnessed the incident and released the footage. As the man tried to get to his feet, two more shots rang out, and he stopped moving.

(20,809 posts)that Israel can be anything less than perfect, pure and holy, can you? Never mind a near-fifty-year brutal occupation that has devastated an entire people. And never mind the pictures of Israelis taking picnics and binoculars to hills where they could then cheer all the bombing and subsequent killing (check out the pics in the Guardian, unless you think THOSE are somehow "doctored" as well). You know what the sniping, bulldozing, ground operations and those pictures of the picnics and cheering remind me of? The actions of Nazi soldiers during the Warsaw Ghetto operation in WWII, and the reactions of the Poles as they saw right in front of them what was happening to those in the ghetto. Unbelievably disappointing and disgusting.

(35,954 posts)After all Al-Jazeera said it can't verify the authenticy of the video. BtA's pointed out a few things, the main one being that there's no evidence that it was an Israeli sniper. That seems a pretty reasonable thing to question, considering that if it's true that it was an Israeli sniper, it's a war crime. Me, I don't know. All I know is hundreds of people are dead and it's horrifying....
You know what we're seeing happen in Gaza reminds me of? Not the Warsaw Ghetto, which was a whole few big levels up on the scale of horrifying atrocities and was aimed specifically at Jews who were taken from their homes elsewhere and shoved in there, but of Operation Cast Lead on steroids. It reminds me of what the US did to Iraq. It's what happens when governments put out public proclamations that they're trying to avoid civilian casualties while their actions show they don't care one iota about whether civilians are killed or not. But it's not the Warsaw Ghetto...

Shajiya There was a ceasefire today for 3 hours so some of us internationals went to the area which I refer to as the Death Zone Shajiya, we went to see if we could help with the masses of injured amongst the rubble.
The Death Zone is unlike any destruction I have seen in my life there is no place left without bombing, shelling or sniper shots. Total devastation.
We reached and there was a beautiful brother who was looking for his family. Doing our job, we made the decision collectively to help find the brothers family amongst the annihilation.
Unfortunately, the danger starts, there is constant bombing very very very close by, drones literally above our heads and sniper shooting. We are ducking and diving, and weaving in and out of the rubble and destruction.
We have so much to worry about 1- to find this brothers family, 2- to not get struck on the head by falling debris from the tops of buildings/houses, 3 to ensure our safety from the Israeli Occupational Forces.
And here is the original thread about it posted by TeeYiYi on Sunday:

Joe Catron, a human rights activist who witnessed the shooting and documented the incident in photographs posted on Flickr, said in a telephone interview from Gaza that, although it seemed certain the young man would die without emergency medical treatment, the rest of the small party with which he was traveling had no choice but to retreat when shelling resumed in the area after the filming had stopped. The two people closest to the gunshot victim were convinced that he was dead by the time they left, Mr. Catron said.

Mr. Shamalys cousin, Mohammed Alqattawi, said in a telephone interview from Gaza on Tuesday that his family had tried to get rescue workers from the International Committee of the Red Cross at Shifa Hospital in Gaza City to retrieve the body, only to be told that the situation in Shejaiya remained too dangerous. At least 60 Palestinians and 13 Israelis were killed there during a fierce battle between the Israel Defense Forces and Hamas militants.

The article seems to confirm the video.
JI7
(89,182 posts)even before these details the video seemed really weird to me.
<Around 02:20 - You can see the distance between the green shirt and his group and the workers wearing the yellow vests. Pretty far away.
02:24 - Green shirt is standing right in front of the cameraman. Close enough they could touch each other. Shot is heard on camera or dubbed in.
02:25 - Green shirt is now laying on the ground a fair distance from the cameraman. Let's say approximately 15 feet. Inexplicably, they are now separated by twisted metal and concrete. There is no blood or visible gun shot wound. Just one round from a sniper rifle though. Hey, maybe it's a fluke.
02:30 - Miracle of miracles. We now see they are incredibly close to the aid workers. Which is convenient if you are trying to recite dialogue. At the distance they were when the first shot rang out, it would be tough to pick up what the workers might say on the camera's microphone. This makes it more compelling and believable. It's tough to create heart-wrenching theater when you're shouting at each other from long distances.
02:37 - Second alleged shot. Again, there is still zero blood or visible gun shot wounds. It's starting to look a little suspicious, but let's give them the benefit of the doubt. These people are nothing if not honest and trustworthy.
02:54 - It's an early Christmas miracle. 3rd hit. The 'kill shot'. Three shots to the body with no impact seen on camera, no visible gunshot wounds, and not even a speck of blood.>

(8,155 posts)Consider, that a high powered sniper rifle has ammunition which travels more than 2.5 times faster than the speed of sound.
At 200 yards, the bullet would impact after 2/10 of a second but the sound would impact after 6/10 of a second. At 500 yards, the bullet would impact in slightly over half a second but the sound would impact at 1.5 seconds.
The difference between the impact of the bullet and the sound grows greater as the distance increases. It would be noticeable in the video assuming the sniper isn't very close.

The video was recorded by a local activist, Mohammed Abedullah, at about 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, during a two-hour ceasefire brokered by the Red Cross, when a group of volunteers and Palestinian rescue workers searched for survivors in Shejaiya. It had been under intense Israeli shelling since early that morning.
Mr. Abedullahs video was edited by the International Solidarity Movement Palestines West Bank media office, which posted the video on YouTube with a headline assigning blame for the shooting to an unseen Israeli sniper. The activists provided 15 minutes 45 seconds of raw footage to The New York Times for review, and although it bears no apparent signs of manipulation, it also offers no clear evidence of the gunmans identity.
