They could make a prequel about the rise of Willy Wonka.
Or maybe a movie about one of the other four children. Perhaps Veruca Salt, unquestionably the meanest and cruelest of the five kids, I think.

(22,000 posts)Wilder was the perfect person for the part. To this day I haven't even bothered watching the recent "remake" of it with Depp.

(6,568 posts)I'm a Tim Burton and Johnny Depp fan. I did NOT like the movie, however.
Depp's character REEKED of pedophilia... I really disliked it.

(22,000 posts)I suppose someone was going to end up playing the part. It just goes to show remakes are not always worth it.

(24,399 posts)But the Gene Wilder version that I grew up on will always be the one for me. His eccentricity always kept me guessing about his motives, intentions and I loved his tirade at the end (even though it was sort of a cruel way to test Charlie)

(22,000 posts)Maybe for the fun of it I'll make a thread over in the lounge for people to list movies like this. It is worth it in case people haven't seen them (which I'm sure there are tons I personally haven't seen, which would be great to add to my list).
