They have that "endtimes" fantasy where Jews are going to convert en masse to Christianity or die.
According to some "endtimes" preachers, only 144,000 Jews will convert, the rest will be killed.
Hitler would be so proud.
CWA Urges Support For Israel So Jews Can Be Converted To Christianity
Submitted by Miranda Blue on Tuesday, 7/22/2014 10:48 am
In a blog post last week, Concerned Women for America reminded us of one ever-present subtext in the Christian Rights focus on support for Israel.
Christian Zionists believe that biblical prophecy requires Jews to converge in Israel to pave way for the Second Coming, at which time Jews will be converted to Christianity or die. There are, of course, other reasons for the Christian Rights allegiance with Israel, but the ultimate conversion of Jews is a subtext underlying the activism of many within the movement.
Take a recent CWA blog post, for example, about the need for Jews to return to Israel in order for them to ultimately convert to Christianity.
Not only should we push for strong foreign policy, but we must also be in prayer for our Jewish friends, CWA writes in a July 18 blog post. Ultimately, God is eager to bring his people back to Him and to direct their zeal for the law into a zeal for Christs already accomplished salvation on the Cross for both Jews and Gentiles alike.

(10,340 posts)The far-right believes that Israel is God's chosen nation, and they don't want to be on the wrong side. Many of them also believe that the Rapture is imminent, that there will be a climatic battle (Armageddon) that will literally be fought in Israel, and that literally every nation on earth will converge in one location to fight against Israel.

(1,638 posts)I assume that was the reason for the support of the apartheid regime as well. Notice how often you hear talk about Israel being the only Western-style democracy in the middle east or whether or not you want to wear a burqa. These are the same people that want a militarized police force that brutalizes minorities. So they get giddy when they see something that looks like that in other countries.

That is one corner of the triad of neocon thought.

One of which is mentioned but the far right is far from exclusively end times loonies, I'd say not even near the majority but rather a boisterous minority of the regressives, pitiful tools used for energy and votes. AKA the rubes.
I think there is something for everyone in the madhouse.
The neocons get a beachhead, a ready excuse for shenanigans, and an ATM for moving hardware.
The vulture class gets an instability factor to price into certain commodities, the military traffic, another avenue to get wish lists attached to legislation in exchange for "friendship", and de facto increased security for trade lanes.
Anti - government zealots get dissension from all sides, a little pig shrinking, and increased avenues of capture from special interests.
No doubt the end timer are "getting their's" but for most of the opposition that shit is a prop, their god is Mamaan and he ain't been off the set for a second and if he is not their most high then it is petty avarice for power fueled by fear and shallow but white hot hate.

(3,813 posts)You offer an excellent response, Kentuckian, but not the whole picture. I agree that the truly powerful on the right wing view Israel as their beach head, and that the end-times prophesies are mere red meat for the useful rubes who keep voting them in here in the US.
However, there are also those regular Israelis who just want to live without rockets raining down upon them. They (or their ancestors) were told to move to Israel in the aftermath of one of the more horrible attempts at genocide in recent human history. Yes, some Palestinians were living there, but by 1948 there were not many truly unoccupied regions of the globe. Judea/Palestine/Israel was certainly among the least densely populated back then, and it was also a promised homeland in Jewish texts. Of course, it happens to also be a promised homeland in Islamic texts. As my kid sister used to say: aaawwwwwwkkkwwaaaarrrrd.
These regular Israelis just want to live in the home that was given them by the UN. Many regular Americans (myself included - not a Jew by ancestry or culture or religion, but with many Jewish friends) support them up to and including whatever it takes to prevent existential threats to Israel.
I also support self determination and dignity for Palestinians. Do I have a bright idea about what solution would provide both? Not really. The Clinton Peace Plan of 2000 seemed very fair to this American outsider, for both Israelis and Palestinians. But Arafat walked away from the table and demanded more. Color me unimpressed:
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2000_Camp_David_Summit
100% of Gaza and 92% of the West Bank, plus sacred sites such as the Al Aqsa Mosque were on the table; all the Palestinians had to do was say yes and do their part to work for peace. Israel also offered monetary compensation in lieu of a right of return to lands within Israel. Instead, Arafat and the PLO held out for more. Their loss.

(25,023 posts)are really why the American Reich Wing supports Israel, I don't think they give a shit about the people or the history. Your piece of the picture is more descriptive of why moderate and left wing Americans support Israel.
Completely valid but not a "why" for the regressives, which was the subject.

(3,813 posts)Indeed. Politics makes for strange bedfellows.
On my end, I was in no way trying to rationalize anything about the CWA. I rarely find myself on the same side as them regarding any political issue.
I only raised the matter to discuss that there are other rational reasons for supporting Israel besides the batshit-crazy-rw ones.
