Peaches, nectarines, plums, pluots... pitted fruits. Organic and not organic. Also watch out for pies and other foods with pitted fruits in them.

Wawona Packing Co. President Brent Smittcamp said in a statement that he is not aware of any illnesses caused by the fruit, and the voluntary recall was announced after consulting with the US Food and Drug Administration.
"By taking the precautionary step of recalling product, we will minimize even the slightest risk to public health," Smittcamp said.

The recalled fruit was packed and shipped to retailers including Costco Wholesale Corp. and Trader Joe's from June 1 through July 12, Wawona Packing said. The recall came after internal testing at the company's packing house in Cutler, a community in Tulare County.

I've bought their frozen for smoothies. Not too good looking.

I think the company with the recall only sells fresh fruit. That's what it sounds like. But if the above company is the frozen fruit you have then you are fine.

(16,371 posts)My daughter buys all of her produce at either Costco or Trader Joe's. I forwarded the article to her as soon as I saw it. My grandkids eat mostly soft.fruit and cherries, but it's important for her to know just in case.

(1,944 posts)We have 2 nectarines left out of a box that we got at Costco and two weeks ago we had a box of peaches from there. I just checked the nectarine box and it was not from Wawona, so that's a relief, but the peach box is long gone. I suppose we'd know by now if those were bad.
It's always something!

The recall also applies to baked goods that were made using peaches, nectarines and plums from Wawona Packing Co. Ralphs and Food 4 Less also included a list of affected products online, including two-layer trays of red plums, two-pound bags of nectarines, two-pound bags of peaches and two-pound bags of plums, all with "sweet to eat" stickers purchased between June 1 and July 20.

I love Costco, but when it comes to fresh fruit, if I can buy it local, I will!
