PA Man Beats Cats To Death With Golf Club Because They ‘Betrayed’ Him (b/c he got scratched)
A Pennsylvania man told a court on Monday that he beat his cats to death with a golf club because he felt “betrayed” when they scratched him. According to The Erie Times-News, 32-year-old Christopher J. Bisbee pleaded guilty in Erie County Court to one second-degree misdemeanor count of cruelty to animals. Other counts of animal cruelty were dropped as part of a plea deal.
Bisbee told the court that he “struck both cats numerous times with a golf club until they no longer were moving.” The Humane Society began an investigation in June of 2013 after receiving a tip implicating Bisbee in the cat deaths. Humane Society Animal Enforcement Officer Merle Wolfgang filed charges after retrieving the dead cat bodies from a trash can, and determining that they died from “blunt force trauma to the head.”
Bisbee’s attorney, Stephen Sebald, said that his client had “proactively sought mental health counseling.” Bisbee had also applied to the Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition program, which allows first-time offenders to be sentenced to probation. But he was not admitted to the program.
Bisbee now faces two years in prison and a $5,000 fine. Sentencing has been scheduled for Oct. 7.
