I have some ideas on how capital punishment should be carried out...

Assuming it isn't done away with in the first place. Which would obviously be preferable.

But let's assume that the practice will continue...

First, it should be legally required that all judges, jurors, prosecutors and officers who participated in the legal process of obtaining the punishment attend the execution.

Second, excepting the family of the condemned, all attendees should be locked into the execution room for the duration of the execution. The only way you exit is if the execution is finished OR you are suffering from a severe medical incident.

Third, the windows through which the viewers see the condemned should NEVER, under any circumstance, be obscured. The execution must be viewable in its entirety from start to finish.

Fourth, the form of punishment should be decided based on the efficacy of the method and not on how it appears to the observers. The electric chair and the guillotine should be primary methods because they are the most reliable and fastest acting. All other methods should be implemented only at the request of the condemned.

The reason why it persists is that we are removed from the process and the viciousness of stealing the life away from someone is obscured by the outwardly clean nature of lethal injection.

If we are to continue capital punishment, we must be made fully aware of its nature. I think that if this happened, we would end the practice.

We would in a way be sowing the seeds of its own destruction.

A basket to catch the head as it is violently removed from the neck. blood spews from veins and arteries. The body convulsing violently...
Electric chair...burning flesh, body thrashing violently...

How about FIRING SQUAD?! bring that back! six shooters, one bullet others are blank so no one knows who killed the guy. You sleep better at night knowing maybe you didn't put the round through the heart? What if you find out a year later, the guy was not the killer?

Stoning? yes, stone the a-holes to death!

Better yet planking...You know, what they did to suspected witches in the Salem witch trials!' You place the witch, or murderer in this case, on the ground. place a plank over the body and start piling stones on the plank until the person is crushed or suffocated from the weight. Giles Corey, the last to be executed in the Salem witch trials era, was planked.

I think that FIRST and foremost, America needs to cease all executions until we can be 100 per-cent sure the person on death row was actually GUILTY of a capital crime.

Do you have any clue how many people on death row have had death penalties reversed because of advances in DNA evidence...They weren't even there when it happened! And we are getting ready to hang, shoot, electrocute, or decapitate them.

No, stop all executions until we know for certain we are not still murdering people who did not commit the crime.

As an aside...to our "Christians" : Doesn't God say thou shalt not kill? Doesn't that also include a death penalty? How does the executioner not go to Hell if they killed an innocent inmate? or a guilty one for that matter, God says do not kill. How does the judge not rot in Hell for sentencing a person to death who is really innocent of the crime?

Instead of talking about the "most efficient" ways of executing human beings, shouldn't we focus on making sure they truly are guilty in the first place?

Which I hope will help end it. Rather than obscuring its true nature behind lethal injection and curtained windows, we have to present an uncolored image of the practice.

I am not endorsing the use of capital punishment. In fact, I'm arguing precisely the opposite. If we want to play death, then we need to fully assume the role. I suspect that doing so would make more clear the horror of such practices.
