Mander's "Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television"?

(I don't own a television, and the electric company generously agreed to remove the old satellite dish from my yard yesterday! How cool is that?!?)

... they are bulk-bought to give to the suckers in RW groups.

They are Teapublican versions of "coffee table books".

I'm all for drilling holes in those types of books, ramming a rod into the holes, and turning the stack into end tables and lamps.

Just as entertaining, if not more entertaining, than a book.

Obamacare:

The owner of the Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas, Nev., and star of the History Channel's "Pawn Stars" slammed President Barack Obama's signature health care law in a recent interview with conservative radio show host Mark Levin.

Harrison said the law is likely to hurt health care coverage for his shop's 63 employees, though he hasn't had time to read through all the specifics. He also offered a robust defense of the free market system.

Oh, and don't miss the Homer-Simpson-lookalike Pawn Star's chummy interview with Glen Beckkk. I'm not linking to it, but you can find it on YouTube.

While I read a lot, I'm enjoying the current crop of TV out there. Particularly having grown up on all sorts of comic books and the kind of non-superhero stuff we're getting and some good SF coming out there. Plus shows like Longmire, Penny Dreadful, Walking Dead, The Strain, Mad Men and more.

Maybe the couple just has super basic cable.

small percentage. So much of it, and the stuff that is most popular, is just awful. And it's great RW propaganda because so much of it glorifies classless, inane, selfish, uber-consumerist, and violent behavior.

There's hundreds of channels and time to fill, each with their own niche. But you can pretty much pull up anything from anytime through on demand services and have great, engaging and intelligent material to watch from the last couple of decades. The only reason to watch the vapid stuff is pure choice at this point.

To sidebar; the best thing I ever bought was a Tivo when it first came out. Once I was able to easily timeshift what I wanted to see and build it up, I've seen precious few commercials (critical during election time!) and never am wanting for something good to watch. Add in Netflix and a few other series that i have on Blu-ray to watch and I've got more to see that I want to see than I can imagine. And that's on top of the copious amounts of books and comics as well.

It's an embarrassment of riches across all mediums.
