We need affordable groceries and employees want to keep their good-paying jobs.

1) Raise prices
2) Reduce quality
3) Hurt employees
3) Drive off customers

(9,979 posts)MB's managers are in the stores, on the floor, backing up their staff, talking to customers, you know - managing! At the other big chains, they're in hiding. Hannaford seems to run more like MB, but has a lot more glitz/internal marketing going on, thus a somewhat higher cost base, and somewhat less responsive customer service.
