When I see a company like Monsanto launch an initiative like this, I feel more hopeful than ever before, said the First Lady. We can improve how we make and sell food in this country.
To remind you, this is when President Obama signed the "Monsanto protection act" a little while back.

Well, I feel something, hopeful is not the label I would put on it. But I do feel something.

Has Michelle Obama joined forces with Monsanto?
Live Leak is reporting that Monsanto has upon negotiating with Michelle Obama agreed to dedicate $50 million towards genetically modifying crops to be healthier.
The popular agriculture company Monsanto is partnering with First Lady Michelle Obama to promote nutritional foods for kids. According to reports from the Associated Press, Monsanto will spend $50 million over five years on a campaign to market healthy genetically modified food to children. The agrochemical company will also bring its food offerings for kids in line with the new federal standards for labeling and nutrition.

(30,481 posts)I didn't make it past the first paragraph in the second link.
"President Obama has armed terrorists across the Middle East, provided aid to Islamic nations, and sided with Muslims at nearly every turn. In 2013, the President gave $195 million in aid to Syrians over the month long holiday of Ramadan. This year hes giving $500 million!"
Amazing that this is brought here.

(5,169 posts)Genetics and chromosomes are bad and scary. We should ONLY be eating the same food that neanderthals ate. They were happy and healthy and lived to their 100s on a regular basis (unless they were killed and eaten by dinosaurs).

(15,429 posts)Might be good to alter the focus.
The biggest promise of genetic modification that has been missing the entire time has been the capability of working within a specific genus to pull desirable alleles that exist on specific loci that contain undesirable traits into other loci with desirable traits in order to actually have the desirable trait in offspring without the undesirable traits.
This has been the problem of selective breeding for centuries because the standard techniques will never remove undesirable traits on any given locus to achieve the desired trait in an allele on that locus.

(25,586 posts)GMOs are an important tool for feeding a growing global population, and for feeding them in an increasingly nutritious way.
MohRokTah
(15,429 posts)If a desirable trait only exists on a locus with numerous undesirable traits, it can be impossible to achieve the desired trait without the undesirable traits if it is a recessive trait. Genetic Modification can change that by moving the allele to a locus without those undesirable traits.

Do not listen to Drudge. If you didn't get this from Drudge, then work out where you did get it from, and add them to your list of "sites that are too lazy, gullible or dishonest to check out a story they like".
