Ever heard of Mama Maybelle..?

...Carter?

She was a pretty good picker of mountain music. Of course, mountain music preceded the bluegrass of Bill Monroe in the 1930's, which likewise preceded country music, which preceeded to places like Nashville and the Grand Ole Opry.

country music didn't become this mashup of pop twang wearing cowboy boots. I really intensely dislike the "new country."

Which takes the worst of pop and country music and makes it bloodless and safe.

It's little more than pop/rock w/ a bit of fiddle and not much else of substance.

right down to her guitar playing style. What her music might have become is a different matter.
