Eric Garner's death vs Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing...

After breaking up a street fight, a man named Eric Garner (aka "Big E&quot was unfairly targeted and killed by New York City police officers in broad daylight. The heartbreaking event, captured on video by witnesses, bore striking resemblance to a scene from the 1989 Spike Lee film "Do the Right Thing," a story about racial tensions in 1980s Brooklyn.

Lee released this quick mash-up, and it made me think this wasn't simply life imitating art. In this case, now 25 years since the release of the film, I recognize that both art and life have been making the same desperate calls for a change in police priorities and an end to the biased exercise and abuse of power. Unfortunately, the costs are much greater when life makes the call.

WARNING: Disturbing footage and depictions of police brutality.
