Madeleine Albright: ‘To put it mildly, the world is a mess’

By Anna Brand

As conflicts around the world from Gaza to Ukraine continue to intensify, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said Sunday, “the world is a mess.”

“Can you recall a time when there was so much trouble in so many different places around the world?” asked CBS’s “Face the Nation” host Bob Schieffer.

“We all grew up in a very different era where we were focused on the threat from the Soviet Union and that was the major activity and it clearly was dangerous, but what has happened now is that we are seeing problems in a variety of places,” Albright said, pointing to globalization and technology as crucial factors.

“There is so much connectivity, but also not an understanding of all the various pieces of the news that come into us,” she said.

“What has changed: We don’t want to be the world’s policemen. The American people don’t.”
Madeleine Albright

Albright named Putin’s leadership first in Crimea and now toward Ukraine and the escalating tensions in the Middle East as two huge “game-changers.”

The world being in a mess today all stems back from when Bush first got elected.

Bush comes along and takes advice from the neo-cons who want the U.S to rule the world. Suddenly Bush and his cronies promise Russia that a U.N resolution against Iraq would not authorize force and Russia goes along with it, then Bush and his cronies decide to use the resolution as a pretext to attack Iraq, thus thumbing their nose at Russia.

Next Syria blows over, but this time Russia blocks U.N resolution because they were already burned before under Bush and didn't want to get burned again. The U.S then turns around and criticizes Russia for not helping in Syria and mistrust builds even more. When it comes to Ukraine, Russia has figured out that they need to look after their own interests the way that the U.S has been doing, so we have the Ukraine crisis.

The reason there was no intervention in Syria is precisely because Bush burned Russia on Iraq when they accepted a resolution on Iraq that they were assured was not an authorization to use force. This time Russia didn't trust U.S about any resolution so it vetoed everything about Syria so that it could maintain its last ally in the mid-east after Bush had already taken away their Iraqi ally.

Iraq is a mess because of Bush as we all know.

But Libya belongs to Obama because Obama thought he could do a Bush and be successful, hopefully lesson learned.

Lastly, I/P has been going on for decades, BUT lately to me it seems that Israel has gotten even more bold with its crimes whilst Obama is in power, I suspect because they know that Obama would not say anything bad about Israel and risk having the levers of power in the U.S make him a lame duck president for the rest of his second term.

No Clinton wasn't angelic and faultless in his foreign policy, BUT unlike Bush he didn't go too far when it came to stuffing around Russia.

Look if Bush had of respected Russia enough to not make them feel weak, then Russia today under Putin would not feel the need to reassert their influence on the world stage.
