Every time Jared Spencer looks at where his right hand used to be, he’s reminded of that “stupid” thing he did on the Fourth of July.

At a holiday party in northwest Omaha, Spencer took illegal fireworks — one with the power of a quarter-stick of dynamite — and lit it.

But before he could toss it, the device exploded, taking Spencer’s entire hand with it.

For a moment, he and the 40 adults and kids crowded around him were speechless, deafened by the fireworks’ boom.
