The teaparty is driving this, so what do we know about the teaparty, the following are undeniable facts

1. 98% are rabid racists and homophobes and xenophobes

2. 98% have no clue what the Constitution says, couldnt understand it if they tried, and havent a single clue about american law or history

3. 98% of them came to DC to NOT do anything, to STOP and DESTROY the American govt

Knowing that, seems to me they are working very hard and very effectively.

Any part of what once was the republican party that didn't go along willingly got dragged along kicking and screaming.
Have no doubt that what might be refereed to as libertarians or john birchers march to the same Koch tune and beat the same M.I.C drum.

No matter how badly their signs are spelled or how glorious their speeches are, Sahara Palin comes to mind here, they all serve the same masters.
Whether or not they can admit it to themselves.

The original Boston Tea Party was funded by corporations (then, 'companies') who wanted to make more profit by not paying the taxes levied on them. So, they paid for a "India TC Spring" people's coup to disengage from the government.

Wed Jul 30, 2014, 10:35 AM

The Boston Tea Party destroyed the tea so the Colony could not be forced to purchase it.

The response to the Tea Tax was an embargo. Nobody up north was buying the tea. The government tried forcing the Colony to purchase the tea so the British East Indies Tea Company would not lose money.

The Colony challenged this in British Court which ruled the government could not force the Colony to purchase the tea. After word of the Boston Tea Party arrived, the same Court ruled the Colony was responsible for the protection of the ship and its contents while it was in their harbor.

The Colony ended up having to pay for the tea because the Boston Tea Party tried to save the Colony from having to pay for the tea.

If the rest of us worked like our 'fine' people in Washington, we'd be on the unemployment line.
Of course, since there are so few jobs, we would end up wondering what the heck we did wrong to deserve the things that are happening to us. It is an art to juggle our bills and keep afloat. Do you think any of these fine folks really care?

I have NO respect for our legislators. Sorry if this offends you but I am an old lady and am, like so many Americans, struggling to keep a roof over my head. I have NO sympathy for these representatives of the people as they suffer through their horrible(sarcasm) schedules.

is your labeling them idiots. When idiots screw things up or create disasters, it is because they truly cannot foresee the consequences of their actions. These legislators on the other hand, while hardly bright, often do understand the harmful consequences of their behavior and do it anyway for self-serving reasons (for example to keep their constituents, who truly are idiots, happy, to keep their corporate donors happy, or to set themselves up for lucrative sinecures when they leave office). Idiots are merely unintelligent. These legislators are malevolent.

Synopsis

A Florida con man named Thomas Jefferson Johnson uses the passing of the longtime Congressman from his district, Jeff Johnson (who died of a heart attack while having sex with his secretary), to get elected to the United State Congress as a freshman Congressman, where the money flows from lobbyists. Omitting his first name, and abbreviating his middle name, he calls himself "Jeff" Johnson. He then manages to get on the ballot by pitching a seniors organization, the Silver Foxes, to nominate him as their candidate for office.

Once on the election ballot, he uses the dead Congressman's old campaign material and runs a low budget campaign that appeals to name recognition, figuring most people do not pay much attention and simply vote for the "name you know." He wins a slim victory and is off to Washington, a place where the "streets are lined with gold."

Initially, the lucrative donations and campaign contributions roll in, but as he learns the nature of the con game in Washington D.C., he starts to see how the greed and corruption makes it difficult to address issues such as campaign finance reform, environmental protection, and the possibility that electric power companies may have a product that is giving kids in a small town cancer.

In trying to address these issues, Congressman Johnson finds himself double-crossed by the Chairman of the Committee on Power and Industry, Rep. Dick Dodge. Johnson decides to fight back the only way he knows how: with a con. Johnson succeeds and exposes Dodge as corrupt. As the film ends, it appears likely that Johnson will be thrown out of Congress for the manner in which he was elected, but he defiantly declares, "I'm gonna run for President!" then breaking the fourth wall.

Tue Jul 29, 2014, 10:05 PM

Under Tom Delay the House was given friday off to allow representatives a travel day to be home for the weekend. When Hastert took over he gave them Mondays so they wouldn't have to travel on Sunday when they should be with their families.

Nancy Pelosi called an immediate halt to this part time scheduling and a return to a full workweek in her "drain the swamp" term as Speaker. The republicans accused her of hating American families. Since the GOP retook the House they're back to their old ways of a three day workweek and a five day paycheck with lengthy vacations. Now they say it's to "keep in touch with their constituents". I call it cheating their employer and a fire-able offense.
