MSNBC is just like the schizophrenic-like Democratic Party, it wants to be two incompatible things.

The liberal wing and the GOP-lite wing can not remain in their loveless marriage much longer, the wingnuts are already miles ahead of the game because of the media they have bastardized and turned into a unified propaganda machine that sells old people stuff they don't need.

And the relatives are starting to talk, so thermos that.

The liberal wing of the party is going to eventually take over the party from sheer force of better policies and being better humans than the GOP-lite version that is still in charge of the ropes, that has to be a given.

If only MSNBC would go full liberal and actually become the megaphone of liberalism as Fox is the megaphone of wing nuts, there would be more than a fighting chance that voters could be roused from their slumber.

Anyone care to begin crowd sourcing funding to buy them?

Until then we get Morning Joe and Friends, cousin to Fox and Friends, followed by second tier GOP -lite propagandists, followed by the plaintive caterwauling between 7 and 10, followed by a smorgasbord of prison shows.....what is up with that!

Take a stand, Comcast, or stand down to the dark half, leave that to the pros.

I am uncomfortable with using a political model employed by the GOP; liberals are different, we don't all fall in lockstep. There will always be disagreements within the Democratic party, it's kind of like herding cats.
I don't think that purchasing a mainstream media outlet to champion liberal causes is the way to go. I'd like to see a kickstarter or similar for a unique and completely different form of communication that would attract the interest of nonliberals in a way that isn't hitting them over the head. What that is, I don't know or I'd have done it by now.

MSNBC is able to control the placement of the "Overton Window;" i.e. control the range of topics and opinions that is allowed into the national political debate. Gay rights--OK. Pro-choice, OK. Nationalizing the banks--Heresy! Aaaack--Communism! Lunacy! Satanic Nazi anarchism!

I think I get the spirit of what you're saying, except for your reference to Comcast, prison shows... Buying MSNBC, part of a larger conglomerate, isn't realistic...DU has hashed MSNBC's programming around here before, in case you were unaware.

Do you mean that you want MSNBC to take more pronounced progressive stands on issues, instead of pushing Clinton politics? Change their daytime news narratives?

I doubt, though, that anyone not awake in America by now could even be roused by such a shift in MSNBC's rhetoric, even if the daytime shows were changed. Polls show the country shifting left, anyway.

The best improvement I could see is if, in the nighttime news interviews, they held more corporate Democrats' feet to the fire to push progressive legislation before Congress, legislation that reflects national polls. Bernie Sanders' and Alan Grayson's presence are too regular and comfortable lately; their public pressure on corporate Dems would be more helpful for Sanders, Grayson and the progressive caucuses.

Their best pressure would be to hammer away at getting money out of politics, in my view. If you're saying it's a frustrating channel to watch, I agree.

This show, Morning Joe. It has an audience so small that if it was a local morning show in a big city it would be ok, but as a national program it is virtually nonexistent. Viewership in the low to maybe mid six figures in a country with over 300,000,000 people. Joe could do his show in the nude and no one would notice. No one is watching.
Even FoxNews has shitty numbers. You might notice they always say they are 'number one in cable news'. Not in cable. Not in news. In cable news. Which means they beat people with figures so low they could be live audiences rather than mass media. The best they do with their most popular dreck is about 3 million people. On any given night, each of the three broadcast network new shows have over twice that figure. Each of them. FoxNews is a backwater.
It's a waste of breath even talking about them.

I get enough news on DU. I don't need to watch news on tv and get my blood pressure up. Most people don't have access to anything but pure garbage for news on the tv. There's enough of that on the internet. MSNBC is garbage too, with the exception of a couple of shows. It's just not worth the time.
