A Syrian rebel commander bemoans lack of international aid

A Syrian rebel commander bemoans lack of international aid
ISTANBUL, Turkey — After spending six and a half months in northern Syria commanding a ragtag local resistance force, whose small arms and homemade bombs are no match for the army’s tanks, artillery and militia, Abdullah Awdeh crossed the border into Turkey late last month in search of aid.

Awdeh, 27, said he had been a lieutenant in the Syrian army until he fled to Turkey in June, and that since August he had commanded about 100 fighters in villages near the town of Idlib. He allowed is own name to be used because he said he’s already known to the regime and would face death in any case if he were captured.

Awdeh was in Istanbul last Sunday, as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and more than 70 foreign ministers from around the world arrived for the second meeting of the “Friends of the People of Syria.” There the United States and other countries gave the first hints they will send non-lethal military support and funds to the Syrian resistance, channeling it through the Syrian National Council.

But for a donation from a Syrian businessman, Awdeh said he left here empty-handed. He said he hopes to reinfiltrate into Syria shortly.

Video: In solidarity with the female detainees of Syria – London
The international community is in shock and extreme anger at the abduction and illegal detention of several females across Syria in the past year, with an increase in the last month.

Females are being abducted and held under inhumane conditions and possible torture without access to a lawyer or medical attention.

The situation in Syria has deteriorated with over 773 documented females killed so far in the brutal crackdown on peaceful civilians in Syria in the past year. The exact number of detained females remain unknown as most are abducted and never documented.

The international community, will unite on Saturday 7th April 2012 across the world to be the voice of the female detainees of Syria and call on all governments, human rights organisations and international observers to demand the immediate release of all the female detainees in Syria held with no charges and in inhumane conditions.

Over 100 dead in Syria before truce
DAMASCUS – More than 100 people were reported killed across Syria on Saturday, 74 of them civilians, as regime forces pressed a protest crackdown three days ahead of a deadline to cease fire and pull back.

Monitors reported the escalation in violence despite UN chief Ban Ki-moon’s latest rebuke to Damascus for stepping up its assault on dissent hubs ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

At least 40 civilians died “in bombardment and shooting on the town of Latamna,” in Hama province, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The Britain-based monitoring group said civilians were killed as well in Tibet al-Imam, also in Hama, and another 16 in the neighbouring province of Homs, where Rastan town was bombed, in Idlib to the northwest, and Aleppo in north Syria.

Video: Lebanese city welcomes Syrian refugees
Lebanon has seen an increase in the number of people from violence-torn Syria seeking sanctuary.
Tripoli, in Lebanon’s north, continues to welcome new arrivals from the neighbouring country despite economic hardships that make supporting a new influx of people harder.

NOTE
There was a post on another blog and a tweet talking about how to help the Syrians.
A common method was to spread the news of what is happening in Syria.
The reports above come from a variety of news sources.
This is my contribution toward helping the Syrians.
That is all. Not propaganda. Not a hatred of any people.
Just opposition to the malfeasance of any government/regime, including the US.
My neighbors are Iranian; the husband just returned from a several month visit to that country.
They are fantastic people.
There are good and bad people in any country.
My heart is with the oppressed, always.
