Minnesota man LOLs in Facebook post about his totaled car — after accident that killed a teen

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/07/31/minnesota-man-lols-in-facebook-post-about-his-totaled-car-after-accident-that-killed-a-teen/
An allegedly drunk Minnesota man involved in an accident that killed a 16-year-old teen posted an image of totaled car followed by a smiley face on Facebook, the Star Tribune reported.

According to police, Michael J. VanWagner was involved in two accidents on the afternoon of July 22, 2014. First, VanWagner sideswiped a vehicle, and while leaving that scene, struck the car of 16-year-old Jason F. McCarthy from behind.

Later that day, as McCarthy clung to life at North Memorial Medical Center, VanWagner posted an image of his wrecked vehicle on Facebook, along with the message “That’s her front end after I got done with her lol ” He later posted that he was “all good slept a day in the hospital then came home and did yard work lol”

Those posts have since been deleted, and in an interview with the Star Tribune on Wednesday, VanWagner said “I didn’t even know I hit somebody. I just thought I hit something.”

The state trooper who questioned VanWagner after the collision with McCarthy detected the “odor of alcoholic beverage” and took him to the hospital to have a blood alcohol test performed.

The results of that test are still pending. However, a week after the accident, VanWagner was back on Facebook mocking attempts to pull over intoxicated drivers:

I kinda fell off the earth about a year ago when I got back from investigating an opportunity in China that turned out to be a disaster. Poked around on DU occasionally but fell away out of frustration with arguing with certain people who refuse to accept logic or the scientific method. Hied off for Equestria Daily (yes I am a brony ) and Vikings/wrestling boards. Car died in December, lost home in May. As bad as that all sounds, I am taking it all as an opportunity to reboot my life and feel surprisingly well and energetic. Working on getting my attorney license up to date and ready to move on.

Decided to pop into DU again - and even remembered my password (!) - a couple of days ago. Definitely back for good. Put the annoyances on total block and intend to return to my former snarky, lefty, hyperlogical (I am Aspergers' after all) glory on the site I have visited the most. I have been pleasantly urrised by the number of "Welcome back, where the hell were you?" posts and e-mails.

But how does the press seem to come up with all these FB posts to use against people? Doesn't anyone use privacy settings or do their "friends" turn them in? I've always wondered.
