A Scathing Letter To Speaker Boehner From A Republican
August 1, 2014

Dear-Congress

As I’m sure most of you are aware, or at least should be, of the madness that has taken over our country, I came across something a Republican friend wrote on his Facebook page. After I read it, tears welled up in my eyes. Could it be there really are actual people out there that may have a different ideology than I do but are also quite reasonable and sane? The answer is yes. Sadly, they don’t seem to be heard from enough. After posting his status on my Facebook page I noticed a strange thing happening, nobody was debating, arguing, or being unpleasant. Maybe if enough people like Robb spoke up, the career politicians or wannabes would wake up. Might be wishful thinking on my part, but I’m an optimist.

Below please find a copy of my friend Robb Olsen’s Facebook status. It’s making its away around social media with applause from both major political parties. It’s time we put our party aside and do what is best for our nation and our planet.

“Dear Speaker Boehner: Yay…you got the votes needed to pass a resolution authorizing you to sue the President. Just what we need…more acrimony, petty politics and ridiculous media spectacles. Mr. Speaker, by all accounts, you have been advised that the chances of getting your lawsuit in to a court are about zero. And, if you could find a partisan judge to hear your case, the chances of prevailing? Let’s just say we have a better chance of seeing pigs fly.

So let’s see how suing the President fits in to the grand scheme of things:

1. We have an unaddressed full-blown humanitarian crisis on our borders;
2. The Middle East is literally and figuratively on fire;
3. The Russians are shooting passenger jets out of the sky and seizing the lands of independent nations by force;
4. Our economy is fragile and ailing (I’m being generous here);
5. Our Veterans are being denied the basic promises we made to them; and
6. The rich are getting richer while the poor are getting poorer.

Unfortunately, sir, this is a short list of the many profound issues facing our exceptional nation and you believe, as the 3rd most powerful person in our alleged leadership that the #1 priority should be to pursue a futile lawsuit?

An appalling, sad and a monumental embarrassment for our nation.

Mr. Speaker, feel free to pursue your folly but please understand that this registered Republican won’t send a dime to or cast a vote for any candidate that endorses this travesty.”

Here is a small sampling of what both Democrats and Republicans, modern day citizens, are saying in response to one of the best posts I’ve read in quite some time.

“I keep re-reading it. Not one wrong word. Perfection. Wow. “
“Well said”
“Mr. Olson you are the kind of Republican I used to respect. We disagreed on policy but came to the middle for the good of the nation. Now it seems you are a dying breed. I am so sad for our country.”
“Eloquently Put!”
“Very well said. I would like to say something to all who agree with this. At the next election help make some real change in Washington. Vote out all incumbents. Vote third party or independent. It’s the one thing they fear.”
“Well-said Mr. Olsen! You sir put into words what the majority of Americans, both Democrat and Republican think! “
“So perfectly stated. This is pure demagoguery and a misuse of taxpayer money.”

In closing, we all need to come together and let those whom we elect to act in our best interest. All of us need to be represented, not just special interest groups who donate unspeakable amounts of money, which in my opinion is nothing more than buying their vote. Representation should not be just for the wealthy, not just the liberals or conservatives, blacks, whites or Hispanics, but all of us. You know, “We The People”

This should not be about nonsense regarding why someone chooses a party you don’t understand. The point Robb was making was heartfelt and left this liberal in happy tears. On a personal note Speaker Boehner makes my skin crawl!

Remember when you vote, and please do vote in 2014, do not cast a ballet for anybody who put off taking a vote on our horrible humanitarian issues going on right now at our borders, but took a vote to sue Obama instead!

Please leave some positive comments for Robb below. I know it was difficult for him to write this as a registered Republican voter – not to mention he allowed me not only to publish his thoughts on a liberal site, but not redact! It was written from his heart, and deserves major props for refusing to cast a vote for anybody who put politics before our country!

I have read studies that indicate that the internet plays a significant role in the increasing polarization of politics and people. We tend to group with people who think the same way we do and stay away from those who don't.

Several years ago (best guess, at least 10 years ago), at the urging of my spouse, I joined a very conservative mailing list. Once the other members realized that I was not a troll, just someone with a wildly different world-view, we had some fascinating conversations. We discovered that we wanted many of the same things, agreed on a number of points, and respectfully (notice the word respectfully) disagreed on other points.

I don't think I managed to convert any of them to flaming liberals and they didn't convert me to a tea-party conservative, but I think we all came away from the experience with a better and more respectful understanding of the others' point of view. I'm sorry that the group eventually faded away as mailing lists tend to do over time.
