I was saddened when I read Trudeau's recent interview where he stated that his best days are when he doesn't have to draw a strip. While he's on hiatus, thank goodness that he still pens the weekly Sunday panel. He's older than me, and I'm retired, so I can't begrudge him, but material like this won't be replaced in my lifetime:
I'm reminded of right wing wag Greg Gutfield.

(65,215 posts)All of them brilliant--and all quit when they were ready to. I miss them all, but I would have been sad to see them fade away, too. Maintaining that level of brilliance for so many years must be exhausting.

"great..."
"conservative...."
and there is then no auto-complete for "comedian"

(3,128 posts)Trudeau did a strip for the Yale Daily News, the student newspaper, when he was an undergraduate there.
I agree that when he stops penning his strips, it will be a huge loss.

(13,218 posts)I thought I didn't get conservative humor. Then when I got old enough I realized that they don't get it. It's not humor.

(18,614 posts)A strip from last week was a single panel of an empty Oval Office desk where the answering machine was playing Obama's message: "I'm on yet another vacation".
Hilarious.

(7,099 posts)It's based on total lies that everyone who isn't conservative can see right through. One would have to watch nothing but Fox News to think that "vacation" joke had any of the biting truth-telling that political comedy should deliver.
