Why do conservatives despise the United Nations ?

I really don't get it. It has NO real power over the US. The UN cannot force the US to do anything, from what I know. Have we been chastised in the UN ? Yes. I guess that's the big beef of conservatives with the UN. Also, the US consistently refuses to submit to the International Criminal Court (which is not a UN body). Your thoughts please.

3. during the cold war, didn't the USSR have extra votes?

also some believe that:
The U.N. charter was authored by a communist, the first U.N. Secretary-general was a communist, and the U.N., from the beginning, was designed to be a Union of World Socialist Republics.

that may have lead to an initial loss of credibility for the United Nations for some groups.

5. Fear, hostility, entitlement, racism, loathing of "socialism"--all those wonderful RW "values"

get activated simultaneously by the mere thought of theUN.

18. Especially Socialism

Anything "cooperative" is "social" therefore "Socialism". You don't need a brain to be a conservative, in fact, it's probably a drawback!

19. They aren't lacking in brains.

Just in cerebral cortexes. They have functional brainstems to keep their hearts going, and their amygdalas and thalamuses (amygdalę & thalami?) work just fine to keep those rage & fear neurotransmitters flowing.

6. american exceptionalism

the UN suggests that the United States is one country among many other countries. According to their ideology, America is in a class by itself.

16. Exactly.

In their eyes, the US answers to no one and can do whatever the hell it wants.

7. Because of the UNs humanitarian efforts.

Conservatives like needy people to suffer. It's in their very essence.

8. America should not be part of a team. We should be the un-questioned leader of the world.

We should never have to compromise with other countries.
They should just do what we say or we bomb them out of existence.

That's the conservative view.

The US is just one among many and their ego can't handle that.

10. It wants to help other countries

It wants to do something to help the poor and those suffering in war.

Republicans don't like that.

Also, the paranoid evangelical wing of the party thinks it interferes with their desire to bring on Armageddon.

13. For the same reason they hate government in general. They want nothing to interfer with the

course of their interests. They especially hate the fact that the UN has some equality for all nations. All those brown nations have a vote!!!!

14. There is no global white majority. It would give the poor a beach head, think of how many

poor countries there are.

Would arguably make wars less likely and more likely to end quicker when something boils over.

The potential to hem in and regulate multinational and global corporations.

Dilution of influence of an 800 gorilla they already have collared.

15. Anything that potentially restrains the US from doing anything it wants in the world is bad...

... according to Republicans, particularly an entity that could potentially seek to stop a Republican President from having the US do anything it wants.

So the Republicans purposefully weaken the UN and also at the same time complain that it is too weak to do anything.
