Mike Wallace Was One Of The Few And Last First Class Reporters Left

Mike Wallace was one of the last and best reporters left in the MSM we used to know. He was almost as much of an icon as Edward R. Murrow. Too bad his son fell so far from the tree. His son is no more than a RW hack.

Why do so many sons of great people fail to measure up. Birch Bayh was a great liberal. Evan turned out to be a republican in democratic clothing. Mario Cuomo was also liberal. His son looks like a blue dog disaster. What happens to these people?

1. It might have something to do with living in the shadow of very famous fathers

Perhaps they grew up knowing they would never be known for anything other than who their fathers are so they chose to do the opposite in a pathetic attempt to be famous on their own.

Never thought of it that way - doors open to you that would not for the rest of us. But you can never know if you would have made it otherwise.

10. Too bad the Bush children didn't have the same disdain for his father

to become flaming liberals. History might have been written very differently today. Raygun and Nancy's children did rebel against mommy and daddy dearest to be the liberals they are today or we might have had a Reagan, Jr. running for the Republicans and winning.

3. I can't help but wonder about Chris Wallace today...

As I seem to recall, he had a "difficult" relationship with his father. Of course that may just have been my impression, but I thought I had read that somewhere.

It could not have been a happy occasion when he told his father he was going to work for Fox. The elder Wallace may have been a pragmatist, for all I know, but surely he could not have condoned the kind of hack reporting and overt propaganda that Faux is famous for.

It is difficult, I'm sure, to live in the shadow of a very famous and accomplished parent. So, I will tread gingerly with the whole issue of the son today. But, I can't help but wonder about him...

11. The elder Wallace was a good journalist, regardless of what his personal politics might have been.

So for all we know, politically he might have been very conservative, but he kept it out of his reporting for the most part.

5. I like RM - a lot. But does she do the same sort of investigative journalism as 60 Minutes?

I see her more as an analyst. Maybe even more important than an entity like 60 Minutes who digs up stories.

much further than she has. Considering she's breaking through the bigotry, it's much harder for her to achieve what she deserves as contrary to a Sarah Logan who fairly breezed through because her appearance and gender orientation is more acceptable.

He grew up in a time where the corporations were not as heavy handed about manipulating the news as they are now. Fox News is blatant, not even pretending to respect the intellect.

As far as disappointing kids, that is because the Right wing knew how to bribe and trick young kids that were trying not to be their parents. There was a concerted effort to reward the "Alex P Keaton" types.
