Conservative group caught lying ... they repeat lie anyway

Madison conservative group Reforming Education And Demanding Excellent Results-Wisconsin, or READER-WI, recently put up a billboard on US 12-18 (the Beltline) that uses a quote purported to be from the late Albert Shanker, a former head of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). The quote?

"When schoolchildren start paying union dues ... I'll start representing schoolchildren."

There's only one problem: He never said it. If you do some digging on the quote, this is what you find:

The incident in question occurred during a speech Shanker delivered at Oberlin College, while he was still president of New York City’s United Federation of Teachers (probably during the early- to mid-1970s).

Although nobody recalls the exact wording, it went something like this:
I don’t represent children. I represent teachers... But, generally, what’s in the interest of teachers is also in the interest of students.

and over again. And for those on the fence, if they hear it over and over again, they will believe it too. What an outrageous society we have when lies are overwhelming logic and what's right for the country. God, I really do hate republicans. And that, is no lie!

And the ability to believe the dumbest statements their fellow Conseratives tells. First of all most are not conserative, they stole this name from fiscal Republications. Lies, lies and more lies.

10. All they care about is getting the visceral reaction- whether it's truth or not doesn't matter

Proving it's a lie is like an aftermath footnote- Once the picture has been planted, the damage has already has been done. Retracting the lie won't retract the image. By the time a lie is exposed, they've already launched a new volley of lies.

Republicans are liars.

That's what they do.

They don't mind being lied to themselves, as long as it screws somebody else over worse.
