This is why they don't do hidden camera shows in NYC -- people either ignore you or they step up to help fix your problem. There was a sting operation in the subway station where they had an undercover cop dressed as a drunken businessman, on the ground, watch, wallet, etc exposed and NYers kept trying to help him. He was offered coffee, a cab ride, etc until the cops finally gave up and tried it somewhere else.

(19,926 posts)I hate being forced to listen to something on the subway when I just wanted a quiet ride. Plus I'm not that into The Lion King. Saw it once, that was enough.

Kind of a once in a lifetime opportunity there but you want quiet?
Wow!

(19,926 posts)But I don't really like the Lion King much, and I've been forced to listen to too much in subways that I know my initial reaction would be "please stop". And I don't even live in NYC, just worked there for about a year off and on.
I was starting to post that even if Pavarotti were to sing in the subway I would want him to stop, but then I thought, eh, how many times are you going to get a chance to hear him like that even if you don't like opera at all?
A cultural high point doesn't come along like that everyday.

I would have probably ended up with a regret of not getting off at the same stop as the talent for a chat and a handshake.
Years ago I went to a protest in DC and saw the most amazing 5 gallon bucket drummer entertain. I tipped him, but I should have sat and talked to him for a few minutes. I'm sure he had stories of the district few ever hear.
