Former US secretary of state and potential presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton issued a staunch defense of Israel over its conduct of the war against Hamas, placed full ultimate responsibility on Hamas for the deaths of children and other innocent people, and defended Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahus insistence on maintaining security control in the West Bank in the next few years.
In an interview published Sunday by Jeffrey Goldberg for The Atlantic, she also urged an overarching US strategy to confront Islamic terrorism, equating this struggle to the one the US waged against communism.
She spoke of the failure that arose from the Obama administrations decision not to aid the initial uprising against Syrias President Bashar Assad, which created a vacuum now filled by jihadists.
And overall, she indicated that she considered President Barack Obamas approach to foreign policy to be too cautious. Responding to Obamas self-described foreign policy doctrine of: Dont do stupid shit, Clinton, who served as his top diplomat for four years between 2009 and 2013, said: Great nations need organizing principles, and Dont do stupid stuff is not an organizing principle.
Goldberg judged that Clinton indicated that she does intend to run for the presidency when, after he said to her that he felt the US, on balance, has done a good job of advancing the cause of freedom, she responded: Thats how I feel! Maybe this is old-fashioned Im about to find out, in more ways than one.

We cannot happen to dislike her because of statements like these? It must be because we are sexist? That is a cop out.

It's also pretty disgusting of her to jump to "anti-Semitism" as the cause of criticisms of Israel. Maybe Israel is criticised because it claims to be a liberal democracy whilst maintaining an occupation regime that many observers have likened to apartheid and thumbing its nose at international law. Which is really more shocking: that a brutal authoritarian regime engages in military action that results in thousands of deaths of civilians, or that the self-proclaimed "only democracy in the Middle East" does it, while claiming all the while to stand for Western values?

(7,784 posts)Clinton Vows to Back Israel in Latest Mideast Conflict
By PATRICK HEALY
Published: July 18, 2006
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton said yesterday that she supported whatever steps are necessary to defend Israel against Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran and Syria in the military conflict in the Middle East.
Addressing a crowd of several thousand in Midtown at an impassioned rally for Israel, she said America must show solidarity and support for Israel in the face of the unwarranted, unprovoked seizure of three Israeli soldiers by members of Hamas and Hezbollah, which she described as among the new totalitarians of the 21st century.
We will stand with Israel because Israel is standing for American values as well as Israeli ones, said Mrs. Clinton, who joined two dozen political and religious leaders on a stage a few blocks from the United Nations headquarters on the East Side.
Bringing the threat home, she compared Israels military response, which has included heavy bombardment of Lebanon, to a theoretical response by the United States if it faced attacks from neighboring countries. I want us here in New York to imagine, if extremist terrorists were launching rocket attacks across the Mexican or Canadian border, would we stand by or would we defend America against these attacks from extremists? she said to roars of approval.

Do not get me wrong, I know that until at least two of the current right wing scotus are out, by whatever means needed, we cannot let any GOP come within smell distance of the Oval Office. but do not be surprised if that money runs really dry come donation time.
