(32,013 posts)I hate how people frame the concept of being offended and parse it in relative privation.

(32,013 posts)I'm tired of seeing the fallacy of relative privation ("this is not as bad as that" used as an argument.

(32,013 posts)One can walk and chew gum at the same time. It's not a zero-sum game in combatting right wing garbage vs. "real world issues".

(24,979 posts)Yes, offensive speech exists and can be very harmful to the people it targets. I do not agree with the OP as a general principle in all cases, but it does address an exaggerated style of being offended that has become very widespread, is counterproductive and distracting, and is actually abused by many to reinforce their own privileges. (See all the right-wingers constantly offended about things like insufficient displays of "patriotism" or "the war on Christmas."

(16,843 posts)We'd have a much better world if we stopped wasting energy on whining and obsessing over small matters and spent that energy thinking of ways to fix the big problems.
