(47,953 posts)Our President seems to be going full neocon in his security policy, his apparent successor seems to be going full neocon in all aspects, and the country seems to be continuing its slide towards total RW domination of Congress. Help!

(5,082 posts)Expect more of the same if we allow the vocal centrist sell outs in our party to dominate leadership and media positions.

(9,126 posts)Therefore it is unrealistic. The Republicans will be mad at this cartoon. Therefore we should all smile and clap.

(11,441 posts)for if we hadn't, we wouldn't have gotten (shitty) healthcare "reform" and the economy would not have "recovered." The Big O actually used the word "torture," and we all should be satisfied with just that. God Bless pragmatic progress, and the good ol' U S of A!

(23,091 posts)This administration is terrified of being seen as partisan - that's 100% the truth and sadly we've seen this again and again. Recently, Obama has started telling more of the truth about the perifidty of the other side, but more is still needed. He also needs to totally stop listening to the neocons. They were wrong then, they are wrong now.

"I think that the president's decision, supported by Nancy Pelosi and many Democrats, in 2010 to "look forward" and not backward was justifiable ethically as well as in practical terms."

(19,926 posts)"I don't like the dismissive language Obama used at all, but as I said, for me that's secondary to the astonishing admission this president made."
So I guess admitting it is so astonishing that prosecuting it would be meaningless.
I had someone (who I hear claims they are a lawyer) tell me that we need to find out why they did it, that prosecution is not a deterrent, the only way to stop it is to have a moral discussion about it.

(39,405 posts)when you apologize for and continue the worst of opponents policies, it's no wonder voters can be apathetic or easily misled.
Incremental change is tough for the casual observer to detect, and when you enact your opponents policy ideas, the public doesn't notice the irony of the opponents not helping or applauding.
They only see whether the policy works or its flaws in practice, and if the opponents who crafted the policy in the first place criticize it, the public suspects the critics might be right.
Democrats massively screwed the pooch by not calling things as they really were and acting accordingly after winning the back Congress in 2006 and the White House in 2008.
