Las Vegas police are searching for a mixed martial arts fighter who they believe attacked his girlfriend and then fled.
Jonathan Koppenhaver is accused of beating porn star Christy Mack on Friday evening in an attack that left her with "serious" but not "life-threatening" injuries, cops told the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

No accident that the bulk of her injuries were to her hair and face. But according to this report from The Young Turks, they'd broken up in May and he'd moved to San Diego. He's doing MMA and porn? I was going to ask if he was also was on steroids.

Misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon
Attempted murder should be among them, especially if it's true that "he took my phone and cancelled all of my plans for the following week to make sure no one would worry about my whereabouts." ...I've had several dentist visits to make eating more comfortable and make my smile look more normal...I've...(been) made aware that I'm very lucky to have my vision...since the muscle is tethered by the fragments from the blowout fracture in my left eye.
My multiple nose fractures will be fixed in the next couple of months...(It has)...shifted on the inside...causing breathing issues...My top lip will regain movement in less than 6 months... looking forward to using straws again. My liver seems to be all right. I was admitted back to the hospital shortly after I was released the first time for some minor treatment...
Cutting what was left of my hair off, and losing 15 lbs (it's a lot when you're 5'1") made me feel even further away from myself. It's hard to look in the mirror every day and see someone you do not know... (H)aving makeup done and dressing up for yesterday's charity event...made me feel more normal and beautiful for the first time in a very long time.
The event that I went to was for Face Forward, a non-profit charity that funds...(reconstructive) surgeries for women and children...They are not funding me, my surgeries are being donated by other doctors. I met many wonderful people and look forward to working more with them in the future.

Meanwhile, Christy's accused assailant War "Jonathan Koppenhaver" Machine sits in jail awaiting trial on 32 charges including "attempted murder, sexual assault, battery, coercion, preventing or dissuading a witness or victim from reporting a crime, and first-degree kidnapping resulting in substantial bodily harm." If he's having trouble raising bail and legal fees, he could try his hand at suing this guy since War Machine really is his legal name:

MMA News: It is one thing to catch a case when you set out to commit a crime, but catching a case when you have nothing but good intentions in your heart is just so hard to accept. The severity of the charges makes it that much worse.

Entering a home where you do not live without consent and committing a crime is grounds for being charged with burglary. In Nevada, not allowing someone to call the police or leave a residence is grounds for being charged with kidnapping (for which OJ Simpson is serving 8-30 years). The probability that you would have continued to beat Christy if she hadn't escaped is grounds for being charged with attempted murder. And you're not being charged with rape, but with "open and gross lewdness." Christy says you told her that you INTENDED to have sex with her whether she wanted to or not -- but you couldn't, to put it charitably, "get started." And you call yourself an alpha male!
Unfortunately, War Machine is right about one thing: If he can convince his jury that Christy had sent him too many "mixed signals" about the status of their relationship, or that he'd purchased an engagement ring because they'd reunited, they really could decide that his reaction been "provoked" and he had not acted "unreasonably."

12/3/2014: ...(A) judge revoked his probation yesterday and has invoked a 1 1/2 - 4 year sentence she had originally suspended in 2012. The probation was conditional on his not leaving Nevada, however, during his stint of evading arrest in August, he left the state and was eventually captured in a Los Angeles hotel...
His attorney, Brandon Sua...said the prison sentence had no immediate practical effect since his client already is being held without bail in isolation at the Clark County jail.

Koppenhaver didn't simply leave Nevada to avoid arrest, he packed his things and moved to San Diego months earlier-- didn't his probation officer notice?
As for the "immediate practical effect," he won't be getting out of jail for up to four years even if he's acquitted of the current charges -- oh, and the judge has the option of NOT giving him credit for the time he's served prior the revocation. So unless you're planning to plead incompetence or insanity, you'd better start minding your manners, Laughing Boy -- especially since you'll be in front of a female trial judge!

Trial (Re)set for War Machine in Vegas attempted murder caseDuring a pre-trial status check on Wednesday, Las Vegas Justice Court Judge Elissa Cadish set the start of War Machine's trial for Sept. 28.
War Machine, which is the legal name for Jonathan Koppenhaver, pleaded not guilty to 34 felony charges including attempted murder, sexual assault, battery and coercion. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.
Another pre-trial hearing was also set for April 22.
A raw deal? It would be if The Machine couldn't afford or wasn't offered bail. But remember that he is now serving up to four years of hard time for his parole violations -- he's not getting out for at least eighteen months no matter what happens.

It's taken them this long to get around to testing the forensics? And getting rid of the rape shield would prove what? That he doesn't know the difference between sex and assault, or that he had a constitutional right to beat her up for not being home alone?

It's not illegal to beat up a porn star? Why -- because Mack's not a "nice girl," or because "her kind" think violence is sexy? Mack has been accused of not being worthy of public sympathy -- someone went as far as to suggest that her donations would be better spent on disfigured war veterans!
However, if Sua can convince the jury that she deceived or provoked Koppenhaver by sending him "mixed signals" about their relationship, they might decide that Mack doesn't "qualify" for justice; that she merely experienced a "consequence" of her "chosen lifestyle."

That should give him plenty of time for having second thoughts about turning down an 18-to-40 year plea deal. But it sounds like he still doesn't get it -- much to my delight. Anyhoo, cue the guy with the Dragnet hammer...
