86% of all police stops in Ferguson, Missouri (2013) were of Black people

12.7% of the police stops in Ferguson were of White people (all other recorded racial groups were less than 1%)

92.7% of police arrests in Ferguson were of (you guessed it) Black people

7% of police arrests in Ferguson were of White people.

Of people that were searched, 21.7% of Black people had contraband vs 34% of White people.

Search rates and arrest rates (of people who were stopped by cops) of Blacks in Ferguson are essential double that of Whites in that same town.

The racial profiling report (link here) is astounding.

The racial makeup of the city was 29.3% White, 67.4% African American, 0.4% Native American, 0.5% Asian, 0.4% from other races, and 2.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.

4. They tell you that there 15,865 people over age 16 in Ferguson

and 63% of them are Black.

We are not talking about every person - just the ones over 16 that are actually stopped by Ferguson police.

5. But you raise an important point.

Because it's not just race, it's age.

All things being equal, younger people--those in their late teens and early-mid 20s tend to get arrested more often than older people.

I'm not going to crunch numbers. But in general, the younger population is less white and more black than the older population. It's highly unlikely to come up to the 80+% that the police stats hit for arrests, but the percentage of the population with slightly higher arrest rates simply due to age pushes that number back up from 63% to higher. Perhaps 70%. Perhaps 68%. Perhaps 75%.

Given life expectancy of male versus female, I'd also suspect that more of the older white population is female, just in case somebody looks at the arrest stats by sex instead of race.

We won't even go into descriptions of suspects cross-tabbed for race of suspect and race of witness.

What is alarming is the fact that it's an overwhelmingly white police force in this predominantly black town.

How the city fathers could have their heads so far up their asses to allow this situation is hard to imagine. Any blacks on the city council?
