SWAT just invade McDonald's where I'm working/recharging. Asked for ID when I took photo.

Tried to get closer to confirm identities of reporters being arrested. Was marched at by cops in riot gear and threatened with arrest

And now #Ferguson cops are arresting random reporters. They've killed the First Amendment in that city (and a young man, Michael Brown).
Question is where MO Governor and President Obama are as #Ferguson police shred constitution before our very eyes
Going to try and keep updating this thread. This is the latest about the reporters
Matt Pearce from the LA Times
I just called Ferguson police chief to ask about @WesleyLowery and @ryanjreilly, told him what I knew. His response: "Oh, God."
Ferguson chief tells me he was looking into the @WesleyLowery and @ryanjreilly situation; they had both interviewed him earlier today.
To clarify: The "oh, God" was delivered in a tone of shock.

Well, @WesleyLowery and I have been released. That was an experience.

MUST HEAR THIS ACCOUNT OF THEIR ARREST
All In With Chris Hayes.
Huffington Post Reporter Ryan Reilly tells Chris Hayes the harrowing account of his arrest while covering protests in Ferguson, Missouri. Video

Huffington Post Reporter Arrested In Ferguson
(snip)
SWAT officers roughed up the reporters inside a McDonald's, where both journalists were working. Reilly snapped a photo, prompting cops to request his identification.
"The officer in question, who I repeatedly later asked for his name, grabbed my things and shoved them into my bag," said Reilly, who appeared on MSNBC's "All In with Chris Hayes" shortly after his release to recount the arrest. "He used his finger to put a pressure point on my neck."
"They essentially acted as a military force. It was incredible," Reilly said. "The worst part was he slammed my head against the glass purposefully on the way out of McDonald's and then sarcastically apologized for it."
Reilly said it will be difficult to hold the officer "accountable for his actions," as the officer did not respond to Reilly's repeated requests for his name or other identification. He said he can't be "100 percent sure" whether the officer was aware that he's a reporter, "but that really shouldn't matter in this equation."

(5,082 posts)Intimidating witnesses? Gotta wonder how many of these cops are ex-soldiers from Iraq or Afghanistan. Bush knew he was creating an army of police here at home to terrorize citizens. All part of the plan.

(268,692 posts)This is like a war zone -cops in camo pointing assault weapons at citizens who supposedly have the right to protest.
This is madness

(2,593 posts)I remember the 60's. Seeing this kind of reaction by the police in Ferguson is like going back in time. I am heartsick.
To witness this again makes me think I've lived too long.

Didn't the court just rule that we can indeed take photos are video of them?

Seems, thank God, that not everyone in Ferguson is a knuckle-scraping moron. But the storm troopers need to pack up their costumes and stop playing "army" like a bunch of grade schoolers.

(21,925 posts)as a deputy DA. She was black. She was saying that when she applied for the job, she was asked if she would be bothered by hearing the "N" word used all day long. In the DA's office!!! She also said the prosecuting attorneys in the office had a policy of voir direing out all the black people from juries. And then she got around to mentioning the "sunshine laws" of the old days of Jim Crow when there were nightfall curfews for black people, that are apparently being brought back.
I'm getting the feeling that what we're learning about the town of Ferguson is not just about the behavior of a bad apple or two. In fact, Ferguson may not be exceptional at all.
