Wesley Lowery is a Washington Post reporter on the ground in Ferguson, Missouri who was apparently arrested earlier today along with Ryan Reilly of the Huffington Post for failing to exit a McDonalds:Also Ryan Reilly of Huff Po. Assaulted and arrested
Officers decided we weren't leaving McDonalds quickly enough, shouldn't have been taping them.
Released without any charges, no paperwork whatsoever
Officers slammed me into a fountain soda machine because I was confused about which door they were asking me to walk out of

OMG just read the last one. When is someone going to do something!
"I'm dying. I'm dying. Please call help he screamed." They mocked him

I'm emotional, but need to note: Ryan and I are fine. Have seen people in Ferguson hurt by gas/rubber bullets. This wasn't that
Got no explanation at any point why in custody other than "trespassing" - at a mcdonalds where we were customers
Huffington Post Reporter Arrested In Ferguson

Reilly tweeted at around 8:00 P.M. EDT that SWAT officers invaded the McDonald's at which he was working, requesting his identification after he took a photo of them. Lowery was also working at the fast food restaurant.
(snip)
The Huffington Post called the Ferguson Police Department to inquire about the status of Reilly shortly after tweets indicated that he had been arrested. The person who picked up the phone -- who identified himself as "George" -- said he couldn't give any information at this time and that there was no one who could do so. Asked for his last name, he mumbled something quickly. When pressed for the spelling of his name, he hung up.
The Huffington Post called back and again asked for information on Reilly. We were simply put through to the "Ferguson jail" voicemail. On the third try, George again insisted he didn't have any information at this time and referred us to the city's website for email information. When again asked for his last name, George simply hung up.

Reilly appeared on MSNBC's "All In with Chris Hayes" shortly after his release to recount the arrest.

(7,512 posts)What law is there about staying in a McDonalds? NONE!
What law is there about taping police in public? NONE! Photography is not a crime.
The only ones violating the law today in Ferguson are the fucking cops.

(20,582 posts)Wth is going on? Mocking a man screaming for medical help in the back of the police truck??? You'd think the Eric Garner death would make at least some of them stop and think. Awful!
geomon666
(7,512 posts)And even if they did, they don't give a fuck if he died. Just another dead black man to them, who had it coming.
polly7
(20,582 posts)hell, on the continent, would be reviewing their procedures after that horrible tragedy.
geomon666
(7,512 posts)NYPD had procedures in place to prevent Eric Garner's death, the cop just didn't give a fuck. It's against department policy to use a chokehold, ever. He used it anyway.

(20,582 posts)(I hope it's BAD) but was referring more to providing medical attention when someone's in distress. Or at least calling for EMS .... makes me ill to think another person could die from total lack of giving a damn.

WTF is going on.

(36,063 posts)I remember the 60's water hoses and tear gas... that wasn't insane either.
It was deliberate punishment without due process.

(12,041 posts)Unfortunately the police do this shit because they know when they do get sued the taxpayers will pay the bill anyways. If they had to pay for the lawsuits out of their own personal bank accounts these kinds of abuses would not happen.

(9,474 posts)was just on the phone with Rachel. One cop directed him to exit one door and the cop at that door told him to exit another door. As he turned to comply, his backpack slipped off his shoulder and that's when the cops grabbed him. Obvious squeeze play designed to arrest him for failure to obey.

This shit is so out of control and needs to stop. I'm pretty hopeless though, and very scared for people in our country.

A bunch of white guys walk around stores with rifles and no one cares, some black folks chant on the street and they bring this thing out.

(34,136 posts)Assholes.
The police earlier denied that there was a curfew but now they are attacking PEACEFUL CITIZENS using their right to assemble.
The world is watching, Ferguson PD. This is NOT going to end well for the police.
they are going to use that fire at the car wash as the excuse. Fucking cops probably threw it.

(34,136 posts)BEFORE the cops started firing on them.
Some of the protesters were sitting down in a line on the street. No way they could be accused of being violent!
Police Department - Ferguson
Phone: 314-522-3100
I'm tempted to call their number and report a crime in progress - unidentified people in paramilitary gear attacking peaceful citizens exercising their constitutional rights.

How can anyone take the police seriously if this is their behavior? That's junior high school behavior. Unfortunately the behavior on the streets is not.
