Tweety: "WAIT a minute! We're giving these breaks to people who already HAVE money!"
Tweety asked Heilemann a direct question about how Romney's tax plan rewards the rich and screws the poor, Heilemann basically ducked the question and offered a half-assed "reply" about how the Republicans base their tax philosophy on encouraging people to work hard, which helps them aspire to be rich.

(6,960 posts)That's what Heilemann also said.
He was speaking in the context of Matthews' question explaining the "philosophy" of the Repuglican tax-cutters.
It was actually a very good segment of the show.
Matthews pointed out very clearly that the Rmoney-Ryan 'budget' plan screws the poor and benefits the wealthy.

(55,981 posts)and he worked hard and literally wore out is body. I have worked in a shipyard where I saw sandblasters working. Now that's hard work. Do the Repukes really believe these sandblasters will get rich? They pay a higher percentage of their income to taxes than the rich.

(9,065 posts)The Repubs and overpaid executives justify their greed by how genius they are in justifying their greed.
Explaining to themselves why they should keep hoarding $$$.... is hard work.

(23,664 posts)I never worked harder in my life than when I was a teenager. Baling hay, removing trees and digging out stumps, cutting and splitting firewood, delivering propane were the ways I made money. And I never made more than about 20 bucks a day.
Actually my maternal grandparents did have a little dough, but most of it went to the care facility where my grandma spent the last 15 years of her life.
But when I went to my 25th HS reunion in 1984, I noticed that the people who seemed to be the most well off were the kids whose parents were well off as well. The rest of us were pretty much in the same financial strata that we occupied as kids.
Upward social mobility in the US is more or less a myth.

and they're the only people who still believe it
we have to keep that faith alive
