eCollegeFinder is back with another map series, this time looking at the Oldest Colleges in Each State. Our goal was to give some of the lesser known older colleges in the nation their moment in the spotlight! We all know of historically old Ivy League schools, founded even before America was independent. But what about the states that weren’t even a blip on the map at that point? We couldn’t resist a good opportunity to do some research, so we’ve rounded up the oldest, continually operating colleges in the nation.
We couldn’t base this list purely off College Prowler’s rankings of oldest colleges, but rather used that list as a starting point and performed further research. As with many historical searches, exact dates and specifics get a little cloudy through time. eCollegeFinder did its best to sort through all of our available data to find exactly which school is oldest. In states like Massachusetts or Pennsylvania, the answer was obvious. However, in states like Arizona and North Dakota, we had to dig deeper to find the true “oldest college”.

Texas was a republic then. Wow!!
They even beat the Catholics in establishing schools in San Antonio, it looks like!!
I graduated from one of the two Presby colleges in Texas.
in Fayette County and its a few miles north of LaGrange. I've visited the marker and tree on one of my many rolling adventures through Texas. There were four Methodist colleges in Rutersville, Chappell Hill, Clarksville and San Augustine that were consolidated into Southwestern at Georgetown in 1870. The school in Clarksville was also had a slave plantation. 
the higher education system in the state. The predecessor colleges that consolidated into Southwestern had issues such as slavery, yellow fever epidemics , religious battles and wars that affected their legacy over time. I've been to Trinity a couple of times for basketball games and I also applied for job there when I graduated from college so I know that I should take some time and get more familiar with the history.
However, now that both universities are in the same athletic conference you are going to be a foe instead of a friend the week that our football teams meet up with each other. 
We might have to make a side wager, like putting something in our signature lines, when that occurs. I think the game against Trinity is supposed to be the homecoming game for SU so maybe I'll get a chance to attend in person.
