Local man's Internet-privacy invention draws big interest

Thanks to an unusually successful Kickstarter campaign, a Lake County entrepreneur is moving ahead with plans to market an Internet-privacy device that has drawn supporters from around the world.

Eric Delisle, 43, raised $100,600 in four weeks for his iCloak Stik invention — a pinky-sized USB drive that promises online anonymity for the layperson.

The $50 basic iCloak model works by bypassing a computer's hard drive and software to use a security-hardened operating system, secure Web browser and encrypted password management. According to the product's promotional literature, "you can plug it into any machine — even the most unsafe and virus-filled" — reboot the machine and browse with virtual anonymity.
